I am sure the GOP will take advantage of the Oregon situation by stirring up more hateful sentiment. And GOP presidential contenders will side with the militias and give them legitimacy. Plus hate radio and Fox will stir the pot even further. They want so much hate in this election against Obama that it will hurt the Democrats. After all the GOP supports revolution but won't openly say so.

We all know that the GOP and religious right want more insurrectionist and secessionist sentiment before November. I will not be surprised by how this plays out once the holidays are over. The Feds already backed down once before. And Waco will come up again.

The hate media and Fox will portray these people as true Americans cast in the revolutionary spirit of 1776.

2. Nonviolent actions the authorities could take, to defuse the situation.

a) surround the place with Federal agents and/or state police,
b) cut off the electricity to the occupied Federal facility,
c) intercept any and all 'deliveries' of guns, ammo, food, water or ANY supplies whatsoever.
d) arrest and prosecute the perps once they come out, to the full extent of the law.

8. I Believe Even Passive Action Will Cause An Aggressive Response.

Fox & hate radio will pour gasoline on the fire so to speak. They are eager for confrontation and violence for their ratings. And they want turmoil. The GOP largely supports the idea of even bloody conflict. It plays into their fear mongering. If anything happens the MSM and RW media will play it as Obama and government support the terrorists while they attack REAL patriots and Americans.

10. What about securing the routes into the refuge?

On Google Maps it looks as though access is only from two highways - 206 to the west and 78 to the east. While there are some trails non locals would probably have trouble following them. The intersection of the road to the headquarters is way out of sight of even the fire tower so the people holding the headquarters would not be able to see or threaten law enforcement without leaving their "stronghold."
