People across the globe have marveled that federal authorities didn't move to take back the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Residents say they have not seen a large presence of officers, and the government's tactic generally is to monitor protesters from afar but leave them be as long as they don't show signs of violence.

Ryan Bundy told The Associated Press on Sunday that he hopes the takeover will prompt others to take action across the country to seize control of federally managed land.
"The end goal here is that we are here to restore the rights to the people here so that they can use the land and resources. All of them," Bundy said.
That means ranchers can graze their cattle, miners can use their mineral rights, loggers can cut trees, and hunters and fishermen can shoot and cast, he said.

And no, they won't just leave. Why would they? They have everything they need and supporters and the press are free to enter. They won last time around. They've been emboldened and they believe they're on a divine mission. They say that they'll let locals on the preserve to use the land, and I believe them. Who knows what using the land entails.

This is NOT just a couple of people. It's a semi-organized group of traitors.
It's about the very nature of the United States Government.

(4,458 posts)but...had they opted to keep it real....the outcome would have been way different.
However-I'm not too sure they are capable of recognizing reality....

(20,839 posts)He wants to use the land only for what he wants to use it for. If you want actual land management then screw you. For most people, we elect a government that decides how to properly manage the commons. If we don't like what the government does... we vote. Others, like him, abuse the land, ignore our government, and when the fees pile up claim oppression and play citizen GI JOE figure. Well I know this dude's a fake, and knowing is half the battle.
