President Obama has a wet face of tears

as he is being strong on the horrors of gun violence, and I am sitting and crying with him.
He is in the throes of the last year of his presidency. And we were and still are so blessed to have him.
I laud his courage and the beauty of it, and am so damn glad he is doing something about the horrible gun problem we have in this country.

I'm still crying. The people standing behind him were parents who lost their kids to gun violence.

Be the spokesman for this cause in his next years.

I want to live to see the Obama Association for Responsibilty wipe out the NRA.

that President Obama, much like President Carter, will live on serving his and our country with his considerable talent, his personal emotional constraints, and the vast knowledge gathered from being our official leader.

day in order to grab the news headlines from Bernie's speech on his Wall Street plans?

Obama's authority to change our gun laws and regulations is pretty limited. Why did he choose today to make this announcement?

I like Obama. I worked hard to get him elected and re-elected. But to choose today to make a gun announcement may be just a cheap shot to help struggling Hillary.

I don't like to view Obama in this negative way, but there is something odd about picking today for this announcement.

It's a way to distract voters from the really meaningful economic proposals that Bernie wants to make.

We have to change our culture if we want to stop the gun violence.

That means staying away from movies that feature lots of shooting. That's just the start, but it is something we can all do. Just don't give your hard-earned money to movie theaters that show movies in which there is a lot of shooting.

If you buy your groceries in a store that sells guns, try to buy your groceries elsewhere and tell the store that sells the guns why you are switching stores.

Get a group of friends together and start an anti-gun violence, anti-gun ownership solidarity group in your community. Talk about gun safety and the danger of having guns in a household with children at your church, your social club, with your neighbors.

There is only so much that the law can do about guns. It is we who live in this society who have to make rules like, "I won't allow my child to play at the house of a friend if there are guns in the house."

Before you allow your child to play at a friend's house, call the parents and ask if they have guns in the house. If they do, don't let your child play there. Suggest that the children play only at your house.

It's actions like these that will change the gun culture in our country. Laws won't do it.

I think this one is pretty transparent, but there is an outside chance that I am wrong.

You don't realize how ambitious the Clintons can be when it comes to winning in politics.

your questioning of President Obama's secondary motives for choosing this day - to me - not so much. Chances are that any given day a case could be made why the timing is poor or has undertones of undermining some other objective by either himself or others.
I genuinely think that during the holidays, at home in Hawaii, our President gathered the strength to come out swinging as he moves towards his last state of the union, and into his last year.

Let me add to your phenomenal suggestions one I learned about in a utube video this morning: If you are in a store or a restaurant where open carry is allowed, leave. Don't even pay. Just tell them you are afraid for your safety and getting the hell out.
Believe me I will follow through on that one without fail.

I think it is his address to the country for new agenda for the first of the year...his last year in office. If it wasn't the beginning of a new year, I might tend to be more open to your suggestion, but I really don't think Bernie's speech had anything to do with this.

And...when is/was Bernie's speech? Can't you still watch it on the internet any time you want? I haven't seen Bernie's speech yet. Won't have time till this evening, but I just watched Obama's speech and it was over before I ever turned it on. The internet saves it for you so it's available whenever you want. I won't miss out on Bernie's speech because of Obama's speech.

The people we need to reach most about this issue of gun safety, are the new voters, the millennials who live/communicate/connect on the internet, not in front of a TV. It is our youth who will be fighting the good fight for us in the future (starting when they are old enough to vote). It is they who need to hear this clear and passionate message from Obama.

I do believe this is one of Obama's best speeches yet. He is an amazing and compassionate person. One of the best Presidents this country will ever have.
