UPDATE: My mom agreed to surgery, was put on the tentative schedule, and is having the surgery sometime today.
from my original post:
Looking for good vibes because my mom, AtomicKitten, is in a lot of pain. She was born with a defect in one of her low back vertebra, had two surgeries before she was 18, and another one two years ago which has failed big time. Her doctors are pretty sure that she overdosed accidentally last year because she was trying to cope with pain. They're talking about more surgery, and she's not having it. I don't know if that's the pain talking or what.
addendum: Talked to mom late last night. She walked me through her billing. Got it done. Probably should have asked her first but I panicked and didn't want to stress her more. So--- nevermind.
Mom asked me to thank those that wished her well.
(from me)---that's all 18 of you that wished her well after hundreds of views and being a 10 years member here.
Way to have her back, DU---sheesh.

(11,910 posts)I have a friend whose elderly mother was going to turn down surgery on her back. In short, after consulting with another dr., going to a class re: back surgery recovery, and her daughters talking to her, she had the surgery and is now graduating from PT, driving again and even walking on a treadmill. Bending to pick something up is still a challenge, but she's working on that. She said the pain is gone, it just feels stiff. I hope your mom has the same type of successful outcome.

(14,691 posts)but as for the number of good wishes received earlier - I appreciate that you are under a lot of stress and are understandably very concerned about your mother - I personally am familiar with only a few posters here. There are a couple hundred thousand of us. We come and go. People click on posts and keep going. Please don't take it personally.

I don't think I saw the original post, could you link to it? When did she go into the hospital?
But anyway, please realized that over 10 years at DU, many of the relationships your Mom made are with posters who now rarely or never come here anymore. Or some, like myself, come here most often just to see the DU response on a particular issue. So don't be too hard on DU for so many people missing your first post.
