Rapper handcuffed in Atlanta bank parking lot

ATLANTA — According to rapper Blac Youngsta, he was detained by Atlanta police officers after withdrawing money from his bank account.

Police responded to the Wells Fargo Bank on the corner of Peachtree Drive and Piedmont Road at the request of the bank manager.

Youngsta said he withdrew $200,000 on Friday afternoon and said the bank accused him of "robbing the bank."

When officers arrived on the scene, they found that no crime had been committed and took no action.

If they thought the check was a phony, all they would have had to do was MAKE him wait on his money until the cops showed up.

I thought I'd be taking the path of least resistance by cashing a check made out to me BY Bank of America AT a Bank of America. But no, despite having ID, they refused to until I produced an ATM card from my local bank. They wouldn't even accept my prepaid debit cards! So I smell bullshit, too. But maybe BOA did me a favor -- my local bank probably would have forced me to deposit the entire thing and wait a month for it to clear!

I admit it's been a while since I've had a bank account, but: DID he have an account at that bank or did he not? Is it the bank's normal policy to cash checks of that size from people who don't have accounts there? If he made the withdrawal by check, what bank was it drawn upon if not theirs, and why didn't they verify it?

NBC News Atlanta:
A...press release from the Atlanta Police Department stated that reports of an attempt to cash a fraudulent check at the location and a "limited and conflicting" description led to a case of mistaken identity...

Sgt. Warren Pickard said in a written statement. "Upon police officers arriving on scene, they made a brief detention of him until positive identification by the caller was made...This incident did not directly involve Blac Youngsta, nor was he accused of committing a crime..."

The actual suspect in the attempt to cash a $24,000 check, 39-year-old Charles Darnell Edward, was soon arrested...(and)...charged with forgery in the first degree - a felony.

(Blac Youngsta)...said police apologized. He said police initially took $100,000 of his cash, but later said that he had gotten that money back...

A "limited and conflicting" description?" Don't banks have survelliance cameras? Would love to see a mug shot of Mr. Edward...

HipHopWired: Details are being revealed about the arrest of Blac Youngsta in connection to a shooting involving Young Dolph. According to police, Blac Youngsta’s rental van was involved in the February incident.

Over 100 shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting in Charlotte during CIAA weekend. Fortunately for Young Dolph, he was traveling in a bulletproof SUV.

I ain’t see nothing, I ain’t do nothing,” Blac Youngsta told news cameras as he turned himself in...He added, “It’s obvious somebody ratting. Somebody snitching.”

It’s clear who he is talking about. Blac Youngsta’s press rep told XXL, “Memphis-based rap artist Blac Youngsta has turned himself in on charges filed in Charlotte, N.C. The warrants served were based on lyrics from rapper Young Dolph’s Bulletproof mixtape. Youngsta will await arraignment while he maintains innocence and no involvement with the incident.”

Blac Youngsta’s lawyer maintains that his client did indeed rent a van discovered to be part of the shooting, but it had been stolen.

Just to be clear, Blac Youngsta, who is from Memphis and affiliated with Yo Gotti, also from Memphis and who has a beef with Young Dolph, rented a van in North Carolina. This same van just happened to get stolen and used by people who were gunning for Young Dolph.

That’s one hell of a coincidence. Best of luck with that defense.

Stolen, or "loaned"? And if he knew it was stolen, why didn't he, uh, call the cops?
