The History Channel right now is airing an actual program about ... wait for it ... history!

It's call "WW2 From Space" and it's pretty good. I used to be quite interested in WWII, about 40 years ago when I was an adolescent. That interest gave way to other interests and pursuit, adolescence being what it is, with only occasional exposure to that history in the decades sense. And at that early age, I had never really understood the scale of what went on during that planetary melee. Wow, seeing it from the perspective of space, it was MASSIVE! The numbers and territory is just minb-boggling!

I know most WWII veterans have passed on, but are there DUers with stories about or from WWII, perhaps that your parents and grandparents passed down to you? I'm feeling a renewed interest in this part of world history and would love anything, links and resources, that you guys can offer.

It's amazing what war was like back then. The scale was just astonishing.

...from the perspective of space.

I've heard the other jokes about History Channel. They deserve all the derision and scorn they get. They are squandering an important opportunity by appealing to the idiot set, with aliens, conspiracies, propaganda, and fiction.

5. WW2

I just finished a document about my father's experiences from high school through WW2 and I would be happy to share it with you. He fought in the Pacific in Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. PM me with an email address and I'll send it to you if you would like.

Also, I have read several books about WW2 in the Pacific and the best of them is "Stories From The Pacific" by Lawrence Kirby. Mr. Kirby is an excellent writer and the book has you laughing out loud one minute and crying the next. He is still alive and in good health and living in Massachusetts. I highly recommend this book.

7. I watched that on Netflix.

I also highly recommend the series WWII in Colour on netflix. Computers were used to colorize all of the black and white film so the entire series is in color. It was very well done and has several episodes on the Eastern front that most series gloss over. .
