Opinion: Trump’s downtrodden supporters don’t deserve our sympathy

As the Donald Trump phenomenon endures, it’s become fashionable to make a certain kind of excuse for the boorishness of his backers, if not The Donald himself.

“Don’t blame them” is the theme of front-page stories and much-discussed magazine essays. The economy left them behind, the world doesn’t work like they were promised it would as young people, and we have to understand. They’re angry, and should be.

Well, bull...

1. There's a difference between explaining and excusing.

We need to understand why our family, friends, co-workers are angry, angry enough to form the Tea Party, angry enough to believe in government conspiracies, angry enough to support Trump. They become extremists.

Yes, when a person's worldview falls apart, that person is scared because his future is now unknown. Such a person believed that he was doing everything right, working hard, supporting a family, buying a house, looking forward to a pension to live on and a better future for his children. When this is up ended, it is scary and scared people become angry.

Unfortunately, Republicans have been telling this person over and over that not only is he the salt of the earth, but they also predicted that America is going to hell in a handbasket. And they have been telling him thatliberals, minorities and the government caused the financial meltdown.

Now that the Republican's prophecy come true, these people are not going to look for answers from the very people whom they had been told for years were the cause of their problems.

The irony is their anger has been harnessed to exactly the same people who caused the meltdown.

2. Me too

The economy left them behind, the world doesn’t work like they were promised it would as young people, and we have to understand. They’re angry, and should be.

Yeah, sums up my feelings...but I'm smart enough to research why. As opposed to buying whatever Fox/AM dial is selling.
