Self-Sustaining Island in the Florida Keys For $8.5M

http://miami.curbed.com/archives/2016/01/11/east-sister-rock-marathon-island.php

East Sister Rock Island has been on and off the market since 2011, when it was originally listed for $12 million. The 1.37-acre island with over 5,000 square feet of living area returned to the market in mid-December for $8.5 million, according to Zillow, marking a 29-percent reduction in price.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home is sustained by wind and solar energy, sits on a coral reef, and has a veranda stretching nearly 3,000 square feet. You can arrive by boat or chopper (there's a helipad in the back). Vacationing here is also an option, with the island running for $1,000 per night most of the year.

If you did win the lottery, an island would be a good place to retreat to. FLPanhandle Jan 2016 #5

$8.5M seems low. You can find homes for a lot more in CA. I guess it's the inconvenience thereismore Jan 2016 #8

And business investments based on some sleazy types who take advantage of them and convince them they will make a lot more.
