I found literature on Trump: a nativist millenarian revolt of pre-industrial societies

From 'Pre-Industrial Societies' by Patricia Crone

"SNIP...........

Having no realistic sense of how to go about improving their position, they were thrown back on the assistance of the supernatural, that is to say their own imagination. The supernatural guaranteed the success of the outcome; indeed, the outcome was frequently regarded as inexorable, being the outcome of a revolution in the original sense of the word, that is to say a revolution of the stars inaugurating a new era: one merely ought to wait, though one ought also to assist. ..... They sometimes gathered enormous numbers of peasants. Where the peasants had been exposed to foreign conquest, their millenarian revolts might take a so-called nativist form, the new era being associated with expulsion of the foreigners, and a (usually selective) restoration of native traditions.

Nativist or otherwise, millenarian revolt was always the reaction of people without access to the state, such as peasants, tribesmen or petty townsmen....

..............SNIP"

GOP has separated their base from Obama and the american family. They vote GOP and neverget anything to make their lives better. 'Foreign conques't is outsourcing and immigration. He is their 'entertainment/celebrity' god. They want to go back to the past with "Make America Great Again" (for us). Fits.

The Pursuit of the Millennium, by Norman Cohn.

There are parallels to Nativist/Know-Nothing/Populist movements such as the Tea Party or Trump, but Fascism (Trump is a Fascist whether he's aware of it or not) is a little more complex.

But telling on the alienation Trump's base feels from government. The GOP will do nothing to alleviate this because it goes against their whole philosophy. Trump will be the nominee. I don't think Trump is a fascist because I don't believe he is doing anything but trying to get elected. I don't believe he will deport 10 million at all. Or be a strong man. He's just reading the crowd and feeding them what they want for now. He's dancing to their tune...not the other way around.

the Obama White House and government in general created the situation that led to Trump. They created a vacuum they thought they could fill with Jeb. But Jeb is not a natural politician. And doesn't play off their needs for a master. All food for thought. But I do think wanting to go back in time is a big part of why the base likes Trump.

I am really enjoying the "Settlers" Direct TV ads that are on NFL games now. 19th Century Family living in a modern suburb, plowing the yard, and making their own butter.

base. It hits them in the face. They want all the science and technology of the interwebs but not all the information and humanity in its endless variety. And celebrity is their god. They need to be entertained 24/7 and want that in a politician.
