Yes, I get ads. I don't donate right now. I don't mind dealing with the regular ones but suddenly there are a bunch that flash lights and it's making me crazy enough to drive me away. I only have vague migraine issues but I can't imagine what it must be like for people who actually get things triggered by those lights.
Something tells me my lonely little voice wouldn't influence anything but can a general uprising create real change?

(2,603 posts)I read some reviews that said it was easier on the CPU than adblock.
I find it works well. To be fair, I've never tried adblock, so I'm not trying to actually make a comparison.

(25,932 posts)we're not supposed to do that. Revenue stream, yunno. I have it on good authority, however, that many on DU possess a bit of a contrarian streak.

(10,751 posts)...your description of them as "flashing" makes me nostalgic for the early days of the Web, where every kid's (and lots of adults') new Web page was full of flashing text, 128 pt, often electric green and magenta and black.
Yep, those were the daze!

(10,751 posts)...that's why the Web took off, it made it so easy!
I was lucky to go to University and then work in the software industry, so I had early exposure to Usenet and email systems. My first foray into getting pictures on the Internet used command line interfaces (I seem to remember something called archie and something else called veronica, I'm sure there were other interfaces) to go and fetch images. But wow, when the Mosaic Web browser came out, I was absolutely blown away! It was, as we did not say at the time, Awesome!
I miss timecube.

(305 posts)No more advertising on the web. I installed ADP when I went to anewspaper web site that had three auto play video ads, two popups. After stopping the videos and closing the pop ups when I was reading the news article for 30 seconds three more pop ups displayed. They are doing it to themselves. For flash set the plugin to ask to activate so you won't be bothered with any flash unless you allow it with a button click.

(13,096 posts)I second that suggestion.
It works great and is easy to install.
You can turn it off and on.
I installed it about 4 or 5 months ago.
It has blocked over 300,000 ads.
It has blocked 2 on this page.
It is great if you watch a lot of YouTube videos.

(6,679 posts)I have a star now but prior Adblock worked great. I got it because I didn't want those dang RW oriented ads in my face.

Everyone should be running ad-blockers, antivirus, antimalware, and possibly also a few add-ins that block tracking.
