U.S. Imposes New Sanctions on Iran After Prisoner Exchange
By PETER BAKER, DAVID E. SANGER and RICK GLADSTONE JAN. 17, 2016
WASHINGTON Less than 24 hours after lifting sanctions against Iran for its nuclear program, the Obama administration announced Sunday that it was imposing new sanctions on Iran for violating United Nations resolutions against ballistic missile tests.
The announcement, which was prepared several weeks ago but delayed by the Treasury Department, was made shortly after a Swiss plane carrying Americans freed by the Iranian authorities departed Tehran. The release of the Americans came a day after Iran and the United States concluded delicate negotiations on a prisoner exchange tied indirectly to the completion of a nuclear agreement.

ends up being a toothless argument.

amazing really, when you think about it.

(6,568 posts)5. That wasn't my point.
My point was all the "She's a NEOCON!" "That's what a Republican would do!" "She's ruining Obama's legacy on Iran!" was for naught. It's exactly what this administration was going to do.

(10,283 posts)6. Ah, gotcha.
I like the way, though, that the POTUS et al just did it w/o making it a blustery part of their statement wrt the prisoner release and historic nuclear agreement/sanctions lifting that just happened.
Unlike Hillary, who wanted to act tough and saber rattle. Unhelpful. It kind of IS what a Republican would do.
