LINCOLN — State lawmakers lined up Tuesday for another battle over extending publicly funded health coverage to more low-income Nebraskans.

On one side, State Sen. John McCollister of Omaha and 15 co-sponsors introduced a bill that would use Medicaid funds to buy private insurance for some 77,000 low-income people.

Legislative Bill 1032 is based on the Medicaid expansion program offered in Arkansas since 2014.

“This is a common-sense, bipartisan, third-way approach” to solving a problem, Sen. Heath Mello of Omaha said of the proposal.
