http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/01/21/vets-are-furious-sarah-palin-blamed-her-sons-domestic-violence-on-ptsd/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitterOn the night of Jan. 18, Sarah Palins 26-year-old son, Track, returned to his home in Wasilla, Alaska. Drunk, he allegedly beat his girlfriend, held an AR-15 to his head and threatened to kill himself, according to a police report on the incident. Two days later, his mother, stumping on behalf of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, made political fodder out of her sons actions.
Track was deployed to Iraq when his mother was announced as John McCains running mate in 2008, and Sarah Palin on Wednesday noted these ramifications of some PTSD, and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with.
I can talk personally about this, I guess its kind of the elephant in the room, Palin said at an Oklahoma rally, where she was campaigning for Trump. My son, like so many others they come back a bit different, they come back hardened, they come back wondering if there is that respect for what it is that their fellow soldiers and airmen and every other member of the military so sacrificially have given to this country.
The blame, Palin said, lies at the feet of President Barack Obama. Its a shame that our military personnel even have to wonder, if they have to question, if theyre respected anymore, the former Alaska governor said. The question, though that comes from our own president, where they have to look at him and wonder, do you know what we go through?

(36,063 posts)The public really doesn't seem to grasp that.
Nor do they grasp that every time they blame the US gun violence problem on mental illness they embrace prejudicial thinking that leads to discrimination against people with mental disorders.
Americans have a fondness for vets. Maybe this will help the message reach more Americans.

(20,998 posts)...knows about Track's substance abuse issues, from alcohol to methamphetamine and many things in between. You're right, Sarah, Track DID COME BACK DIFFERENT from his two years of military service...it's called SOBER.
And further, Sarah, there was NEVER A TIME that your son Track was anywhere near combat, nor in any danger. PTSD... please.

(17,505 posts)I'd like to know what Sarah has done for her son's PTSD?
Has he seen anyone or taken advantage of vet org's that help with such a disorder? Have you seen to it he does these things, Sarah?

(9,426 posts)I would like to know EXACTLY where he was stationed, and how many tours he did? She claims he has been to Iraq several times. He seems to have spent most of the time he was supposedly in a war zone, back home in Wasilla. People said he was NEVER even overseas. This should be publicized, since the lies are always glossed over with this grifting clan. It is a disservice to REAL vets to have this poser clinging onto these lies.

(305 posts)War destroys the mind, body and soul. I didn't serve in a war, but my father and stepfather did. It caused them severe psychological problems. Sixty years ago there was no help for them either.

(33,292 posts)Its the lack of respect from Obama for Track's sacrifices to the country. It hurt his feewings.

(13,029 posts)Does she dare to mention that it was George fucking Bush and his lying cohorts who put us in Iraq for no justifiable reason?
And as far as the complaining veterans, if any of THEM ever voted Republican, fuck them too. They are complicit in the plight of everyone who came back from Iraq dead, wounded or psychologically scarred.

(9,964 posts)was what my generation would have called a REMF (rear echelon MFer). He was a driver. Furthermore, he got *into* the Marines on sufferance, to get him out of some kind of trouble he'd gotten into while drunk and disorderly during Mama Grizzly's gubernatorial career. She didn't want his behavior to react badly on her. He was a punk then, he's a punk now, just slightly older.
My son was pretty much of a REMF too, on his first deployment, and happy to be one. The second one, not so much. He never would talk about that one, but it left him with pretty bad PTSD....bad enough, in fact, that last month he became a statistic, one of the 22 vets that commits suicide every day.
Don't confuse a drunk tundra trash snowbilly with a real combat veteran who never wanted to be there.

(14,177 posts)Sarah is exploiting a real problem to get off the hook. People need to be reminded that war comes at a price and this is one of the worst costs of war. I think this is one of the worst things Palin has done. But, she does so many bad things it's hard to keep them all in mind.
