If you are on the East Coast facing the blizzard go check your doors to see if they can be opened!

I just tried to step out on my front porch, and I had great difficulty because the snow was above the bottom of the door. I kept pushing and pushing until I could finally push the door open. I had my shovel in my hand because I brought it into the house earlier when my neighbor cleaned off my porch. Once I was out there, I could scrape the snow off because it was soft and not sitting on top of what would have been ice had my neighbor not cleaned off the then accumulated snow earlier.

If I had waited much longer, I would not have been able to open it at all.

for your info

Sam

Out of the upper half of my storm door so I could crawl out! The snow drift was so deep it prevented me from opening it!

Right now the snow is up to my chocolate labs tummy, gonna be a record storm for sure!

I'm thinking of clearing the walk while I can still tell where it is (it isn't straight so just having the door end open isn't quite enough), even though obviously I'll be doing it again.

I usually do multiple clearings whenever we get more than 6 or 8 inches or so. When you get 20 inches, the stuff on top crushes the bottom stuff and makes it really heavy. Just easier all around to plan for multiple rounds of clearing it.
