One of the girls pictured in an Arizona high school photo wearing the R in a series of t-shirts spelling out the N-word spoke at a protest over the incident and said she is not racist. Meanwhile a black former teacher at the school says the incident only vindicates her lawsuit over blatant racism at the school.
The photo of six white female students wearing black t-shirts with gold lettering spelling out NI**ER has circulated widely, sparking outrage. On Monday, the girl, identified only as Rachel by the Arizona Republic, spoke at a protest.
I have come here to say that I know people have been offended from what I did, and Ive come here to say I am incredibly, incredibly sorry, she told the crowd gathered at Desert Vista High School. I have love for everyone in my heart. I am not a racist, and I am asking everyone for forgiveness.
Dr. Cicely Cobb, a former teacher at the school, would probably beg to differ on Rachels not racist claims. Cobb is currently suing Tempe Union High School District for ignoring her complaints in 2014 that students at Desert Vista were openly racist toward her and other black students. ..................(more)

The photo has a small circle in the corner, indicating it was originally posted to Snapchat, where photos disappear after 24 hours.
A different photo on Instagram shows 36 girls lined up wearing the same style of shirts that read "BEST*YOU'VE*EVER*SEEN*CLASS*OF*2016."
...
That was taken off to the side somewhere and I dont know who took it or who posted it. We found out about it when everyone else did, when it popped up on social media.
School administrators must pre-approve students' shirts for the panoramic photo. The girls rearranged themselves after the school photo to take their own photo with the racial slur, Hanks said.

(presumably the 'I' in the offensive word was the '1' in '2016')

Are:
1. The whole thing about deliberately annoying people to "get them to think" is that it isn't really anything to do with getting anyone to think. It never is. That's a bullshit, self-serving pretext for behaving like an obnoxious idiot. Trolling is just trolling.
2. The trolls very often fling their arms in the air and say: "Why is everyone pissed with me?" and on some level are genuinely confused that people are angry even though these half-conscious idiots chose to make them angry and knew they would be. Well, my dears, if you don't want people to be angry with you, why are you doing things that you know are likely to make them angry?
