(18,652 posts)Luckily it went away once I stopped coloring. But guess what? Cancer has been linked to tissue damage as a cause.
The funny part is, once I went grey-white, people started complimenting me about the color(!) Some people even thought I was putting a platinum blonde dye on my hair b/c it looked that way in some light.
I understand the vanity since I was there myself, but as a Stage 4 cancer survivor for 2 yrs., I can only advise younger women to just love your hair and love yourself. Take care of yourself (diet, exercise, meditation, practicing gratitude). You don't need hair dye (it looks fake to anyone in the know, anyway), boob jobs or face lifts. Love yourself and however your hair is. Change the style, put ribbons in it, jewelry and fancy clips, whatever. Get a blonde wig.
But going the chemical route and having unnecessary surgeries are dangerous to your health. You are fine the way you are without these.

Dumb blond? Not my mother.
I don't really believe that Megyn Kelly is dumb, either. She's capable of holding a job as a journalist at a real news outlet, should more such things ever return to America. I very much enjoyed the way she undercut Karl Rove the night of the 2012 election. That was both informative and delicious. So was her questioning of the proto-Nazi with the atrocious combover. I would like to see her do more of that and less of the kind of FoxNews shtick of which, unfortunately, she has been guilty.
To be fair, blond is the only word there that fits Megyn Kelly. Most of those words don't even apply to Sarah Palin.

(5,106 posts)school she was "darkening" as a blond, but had VERY light hair, just nothing like the "peroxide blonds" of movies. She was insulted when it was implied that she'd ever enhanced her hair color. Although she gradually darkened to a very light brown, she never "messed" with her hair until later life when she actually "reversed (darker) frosting" when she was really getting gray. I had my Dad's dark hair and premature gray from both sides of the family. Ironically my brother inherited the blond hair, but accompanied by early balding. I have developed into a premature graying (first gray hairs in college), but do nothing because my hair looks pretty good as as it is, and looked better frosted or streaked rather than back to my medium brown ( a phony looking disaster).

(5,946 posts)but a lot wanted me out of there. Blonde jokes was just one of the means they tried to get rid of me. The porn pictures on their office walls , the constant use of the name Debbie instead of my name which was a common name not particularly forgettable. (it was when there were so many jokes about Debbie does Dallas et al) I wore a big name button I got when I was a kid and drank out of a coffee cup with my name on it, one day I wore a sweater withmy name on it. One guy was always reaching over to unzip my skirt..... you get the picture - so I developed a sensitivity to blonde jokes, I didn't have the luxury of an easy job. Harassment was not pursued in those days, I was told to get with the program and let the guys have their jokes. They did finally act when I found the 5th dildo in my desk along with the usually porn magazines and some other toys.

(5,946 posts)Look, it was what happened at that time, the same time that stuff was appearing in my desk an older man befriended me and one day told me that because I was not wearing a wedding ring, he felt it would be OK to rape me. I avoided him like the plague but never felt he was a threat - I could take this little guy - but that he thought what he said to me was good advice was what killed me, this guy liked me, claimed he wanted to protect me and still said that.
Oh and companies felt fine with forcing pregnant women to quit, so they would not have to pay unemployment, my sister was taken off visiting accounts as a consulting accountant so as not to offend their sensibilities and given work moving heavy boxes in the back office while a company I worked for would not help the woman computer operator, the guys were told not to help her when a printer ran out of paper, those things weighed a lot, maybe 50 pounds and were stacked high. But it was good that she quit, I later learned the ink in the printer was involved in birth defects.

(12,132 posts)when my English teacher used it about some kids who did something stupid. Don't remember the crime but I thought she was calling them toe-heads and that made me laugh. I figured she meant they were so dumb they had toes for heads and toes don't have brains.
So I promptly started drawing cartoons in class of people with toe heads doing dumb stuff.
She saw I wasn't paying attention so came and confiscated my drawings and laughed so hard she just gave me back the drawings and carried on with class. That was one of the very few times a teacher noticed me without me actually getting sent to the principal's office.
I wish I could find those drawings.

(5,106 posts)it's hard to credit such insults passing in a classroom in the last fifty years. HOWEVER, it's gotten obvious in recent years that considerable shit gets by that would never have happened in the school districts in which I worked up until a few years ago. Also, your teacher was NOT right in the way she handled you: laughing at your cartoons but only then "noticing" you without further discussing the cartoons with you (or did she?)

(12,132 posts)she was calling some kids tow-headed idiots for doing something stupid - I don't remember what - might have been a prank , toilet papering another teacher's house or something along those lines. She was my English teacher all 4 years of private, baptist high-school.

I think that's why he now has Melania by his side. She wasn't, at first. He is now showing her off as in a recent appearance when he acknowledged she was there and he said, "Stand up, honey," just so sweetly.
In contrast, when he first announced his candidacy and together they descended the escalator at Trump Tower (or whatever his property), Melania was five escalator steps ahead of him and they did not acknowledge each other's presence at all. I noted that was strange at the time. Bernie is almost always with his wife and Bill and Hill---et's just say we're used to it, however you'd describe it.

Interestingly, I've noted of late that Faux has been allowing more female and black/brown pundits with diverse viewpoints on their shows, like Juan Williams. Maybe Faux is getting hurt by Trumpty's histrionics against the corPOS and wants more support for their "moderate" and "diverse" programming I have yet to see one of these diverse pundits have his or her own show.
Trump and Faux and the great big Clown Bus are all rats blaming each other for their sinking ships but in Trump's case, he's blaming Faux for not acceding to his "I am King!" demands.

Then we have Trumpenfuerher who butts heads with anyone who disagrees with him or asks him pesky questions. If he can't handpick the reporters and control Faux News, he's taking his football home. Since these Faux News propagandists are not working well with Trumpty-dump, he has to find his own people and concoct his own events. Like this veterans' group that will get the $6 million. Trump has a history of zero contact with the military, except he "feels" like he was in the military bc he went to a military boarding school. He has multiple military deferments.
He now wants to make up for lost time by supporting veterans' groups, but the earlier "group" he tied himself to when he made his announcement on a huge carrier was one guy, and the "group" is now defunct as a registered non-profit. VoteVets don't want anything to do with Trump. So who is getting the $6 million he raised for veterans a couple nights ago?
How about you billionaire$ and Congre$$men stop sending American jobs and corporate headquarters overseas, stop the tax inversions, stop the tax haven$, and pay your fair share of taxes? Maybe then we can get the debt and deficits under control and pay for what veterans need, and not just clap for some very rich friends of Trump who benefit from the current system and gave $6 million, a measly amount considering the tax benefits and Wall St. insider information enjoyed by the billionaire class and their puppets in Congress.
