The conspiracy charge can connect then to everything. There is threat, assault with intent to kill, attempted murder, insurrsction, treason, likely terrorism charges, theft, this list is long enough that the DOJ can just pick and choose until the time adds up to, essentially, the rest of their lives.

So far the only charge I've heard is conspiracy to interfere with public officials, via threat of violence.

I hope they also get charged for the damage they did to Malheur.

All they really did was break into a national park building, camp without a permit, use government property without authorization. Rumor has it they also damaged archaeological sites.

All of these are fines not prison I'm pretty sure.

Now, when they refuse to pay the fines or follow the requirements of probation... then they might do prison. They'll have crack lawyers though so don't expect much in the way of compensation to taxpayers for the expenses during this.

If the feds really wanted to put the screws on, they'd be charged with seditious conspiracy, multiple charges of terrorism-related violence and threats, property damage, computer hacking, and felony murder.

But no, they're getting only one felony each. And that'll get pled down to a slap-on-the-wrist misdemeanor in a few months once the media's off obsessing over some other shiny object.

in the beginning the book will be thrown at them if for no other reason than if
they coddle these folks than minority populations really do have grounds for open revolt.

in the end???

a felony or 2 on paper, six months in lock up, stiff fine, time off for time served. long court supervision

not so long as to make them a martyr of the nut jobs, but not so short as to become an election issue in urban areas

On the live feed yesterday they were digging trenches, using refuge equipment. They built a frigging road through an archaeological site and rummaged through boxes of artifacts. They broke into computers at the refuge, accessed personnel records.

Each and every one of those events is another possible count against the idiots. Not only did they do the deeds, they bragged about them, often distributed video of doing it or allowed news to take video. I don't think the feds will have any problem proving dozens of counts against all these morons.
