All kidding aside, sovereign citizens don't join "the movement" because they're rich, fat and happy, they join because they're pissed off and the thing they're pissed off about is someone else's fault. They're poor. They owe a shitload of money in fines, tax liens or child support. They've had their driver's licenses revoked, been foreclosed upon...SOMETHING caused them to be this way. So it makes perfect sense that seven of them are so broke they qualify for public defenders.

Every defendant except for Ammon Bundy had the court appoint counsel during the proceedings. Bundy had already retained lawyers from Arnold Law, which has Eugene and Portland offices.
