Oklahoma Doctor Refuses To Provide Rape Victim With Emergency Contraception

An Oklahoma emergency room doctor refused to provide emergency contraception to a 24-year-old female rape victim because the medication violated the health provider’s personal beliefs, a local CBS News affiliate reports. The hospital also denied the victim a rape kit, noting that it had no appropriate nurse on staff to administer the test.

IF we have lawmakers who make rules like in Oklahoma where a doctor can place personal beliefs above treated a patient shouldn't the AMA maybe convene a committee to see how these type of laws violate the hippocratic oath?

(Edit to clarify medical Boards and AMA got confused which one look into doctor's doing wrong.)

Medical Board to deal with any such matters--and it seems pretty obvious that in these regressive states, that the Boards are cowed or pre-loaded with RWers.

"doctors" with an online database that anybody could use to make sure they don't patronize religious fascists.

6. Conscience clauses should be outlawed!

They are not about "freedom of religion" - they are about the government supporting your efforts to impose your religion on someone else!

At the very least, conscience clauses should be banned from emergency rooms! If someone's care is delayed because a healthcare provider puts their conscience above the patient's health, it could have devastating consequences for the patient. Meanwhile, the healthcare provider goes on with their own life as if nothing happened. That's not right and it shouldn't be legal. Any hospital that receives taxpayer money should be required to offer ALL legal medical services, procedures and medications.

I'm so fed up with this "conscience" crap! It's not legal for an emergency room to refuse treatment to any patient under any kind of emergency circumstances ... unless that patient is a woman and the treatment involves "female parts". Women are being denied treatment and access to healthcare for issues that are exclusively female. They are being forced to jump through various hoops to get legal medical procedures. They are subjected to humiliation, intimidation and coercion by healthcare providers at every level. This is blatant, gender-based discrimination disguised as religious freedom ... but of course, women don't even have enough "religious freedom" to protect them from all those who wish to impose their beliefs!
