The day will come, inevitably, when the streets are filled with hundreds of thousands of citizens advocating for or defending what they believe in. The question is. What will they be advocating for or defending, and will it be too late?Found on DareToDemand Facebook

(85 posts)Show me a few of those - the ordinary citizens in a city shutting it down because the police abuse protesters. America would REALLY LOVE to see some inspiring examples. Do you have any?

(38,893 posts)There are several videos of Canadian riot police pepper-spraying bystanders, bar customers, shoving around and running off journalists, much less what they've done to the students, and all of this in Montreal. One cop fired a tear-gas canister into a protester at point-blank range.
Two of those videos are here:

And another can be found here. The bar owner is suing the police:

The cost of living in Canada is about the same as here.
The taxes they pay do not go to support the largest defense budget in the world, but to pay for Universal Health care, real education in real schools and universities, etc. They even have laws about truth in the news, that so far has kept Fox News out of Canada.
You really need to visit Canada some time. It's a whole different mind set up there.
Edited to add:
Goods and Services Tax (Canada)

Federal income taxes are about the same up there as in the USA. They do have the GST...which we do not have here, but in compensation they get a whole bunch of gov't benefits that we could only imagine here.

Seriously, why so negative?
What could you help to make happen that might create a more positive world-view?

(19,429 posts)Quebec students living at home $4,793.
Quebec students living on campus $16,413 - $20,509 (depending on lodgings and meal plan).
Canadian student living on campus $20,103 - $24,199
International students $30,121 - $46,217 of which tuition and fees are $15,000 - $27,000 depending on field of study.
So if international tuitions are covering costs, Quebec students are being given the equivalent of $12,000 to $24,000 scholarships. The admission requirements to McGill are quite stiff.
