Flint water got wrecked because it was part of the racketeering of MI pure capitalists...people who believe that every revenue stream must be in the hands of private ownership...especially the essentials to life, such as access to water (which btw is recognized by the UN as a basic human right).

Remember Reagan, "Government isn't the solution to the problem, government -is- the problem".

What they wanted was to fix the real problem...by ending a public enterprise with the goal of selling the Detroit water utility on the market. To do that for pennies on the dollar, they had to attack the revenue stream that fed the Detroit water utility to make it look more broken and more mismanaged.

Removing the city of Flint as a customer of the Detroit water system would and did reduce the Detroit water utility's revenue stream.

So that was done. (So was shutting off water to impoverished citizens who were customers of the Detroit water utility that had fallen behind on their bills, but that's another story).

The spectacularly devastating crisis that particular capitalist raid created was just collateral damage, an accident in the pursuit of capitalist imperialism.

Flint's poisoned water is as iconic re the failings of capitalism as are the horrors of the meat packing industry told by Upton Sinclair. Through the controlling manipulations of oligarchs our democracy has failed in it's primary role of protecting citizens from the evils of other citizens.

All the worst tendencies of capitalism are becoming manifest. This is America's future, a very sad spin on our manifest destiny.

It worked so well - Pissed off Democratic voters so much they voted for that Teabagger disguised as "One Tough Nerd", who only sent in his Emergency Managers to cities that elected Democratic mayors. He even threatened to take over Lansing, run by Virg Bernero, his opponent for Governor. Thankfully, Virg and the City Council were able to prove they were on sound financial footing, and declared his attempt to be nothing more than political revenge. State papers agreed, and warned Snydely against trying it.
This entire state is sooo fucked thanks to Snydely and our Repuke/Teabagger legislature.
