BrideGate Defendants Can Subpoena Christie Office DocsNEWARK, N.J. (AP) The two former allies of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie charged in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing case will get a second chance to force the release of documents from the law firm whose taxpayer-funded 2014 report absolved Christie of blame.
U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton on Friday said attorneys for Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly can subpoena the Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher law firm for what they contend are thousands of pages of relevant documents, particularly communications between people in Christie's office and the bridge's operator during the September 2013 closures.
In its response to a grand jury subpoena by the U.S. attorney's office when it was assembling the indictment, the firm provided a list of documents some thousands of pages long, defense lawyers say it said were privileged communications by Christie staffers that couldn't be released.

(2,419 posts)that many of those documents don't exist. This is going to be a problem because public records laws required them to be retained as public records since Gibson Dunn was performing their services on the taxpayers dime for a public purpose. Now here's the thing-Baroni and Kelly (as well as Wildstein) know what exists and what they've been provided in discovery. I would bet the ranch that there is a difference between what documents have been turned over and what Baroni and Kelly know for a fact should have been included. I'm not sure what their end game is. I would think that incriminating folks higher up in the chain would be beneficial to their plea bargaining positions and allowing this discovery motion to do that would be detrimental, unless they need corroboration for their version of events. I don't think it matters if Christie knew for their defense, but if they can take him down with them it means everything for their ability to make a deal. These two have practically been screaming "Make a deal with me Monty!" since the indictments came down.

(3,457 posts)You know that old codger doesn't want to die in jail and they have him nailed on the "chairman's flight" that he extorted from United.
The Port Authority kept secret four meetings between Gov. Chris Christies former top staffer at the bi-state agency and representatives of United Airlines when it initially made his calendars public, WNYC has learned.
The hidden meetings were between then-Port Authority Deputy Director Bill Baroni and Jeff Smisek, who at the time was CEO of United Airlines, and Jamie Fox, a former United lobbyist and the current Christie transportation commissioner. They were redacted from documents requested by The New York Times in December 2013 and posted on the Port Authority website.
WNYC only learned of the redacted meetings because of a subsequent freedom of information request we filed 14 months later under a new regime at the Port Authority. That request asked specifically for documentation of meetings and communications with United Airlines.

(2,419 posts)playing three sides of the American Dream Mall development, the Harrison Train Station approval-at least one of those things can take him down and he's not going down alone. Samson is a guy who knows, not just where the bodies are buried, but who buried them, how many shovels of dirt it took , how long they've been there and whether they're face up or face down. I've got to believe in Malaise's mantra-Samson will be Christie's Delilah.
