The David Duke thing, the trump University suit being allowed to proceed to trial, and the "off the record" immigration comments are going to be his end (despite Morning Joe's best effort and apologia). It might take a while, but they are "establishment" inflicted mortal wounds ... for trump AND the republican party.

(20,868 posts)They were interviewing an elderly lady in New Orleans and she said, "There is no more Republican Party left after this!".
Seems she was right and now with this Trump/KKK/Duke crap as frosting on their racist cake, seems that old lady in New Orleans was quite right!
Hell of a way to go down however. Sickening in fact!!

(17,469 posts)Hmmm, did someone tell Bobby Jindal? How about those clowns running the senate and refusing to allow Obama to nominate Scalia's replacement.
The GOP implosion has been imminent for years, yet even shooting themselves in the head seems to have no effect,

And if the GE is Trump v Clinton, both have plenty of self-inflicted crap.

(31,849 posts)what has been buoying the trump boat is no media source has focused on anything and none of his rivals have hammered what is out there ... now, the media is focusing, Rubio is hammering it ... plus, the gop establishment is running ads. Trump will only make it to the G/E as a 3rd Party candidate ... and I'm good with that.

Our best hope is that it will dawn on the fence sitters and low information voters that he'd be a really bad idea as a president with his finger on the button.

(53,764 posts)Think of Trump's bluster in a debate against Clinton, who calmly dismantled a slew of repugs one after the other in the last Benghazi hearing, for 12 hours.
Trump has no actual policy. She'd destroy him.
And so would Bernie.

(31,849 posts)but the Duke thing cuts out the angry; but, not racist crowd ... the "I really didn't mean any of the stuff about deporting the 11 million and building a wall, it was just a negotiating point" cuts out the xenophobe crowd ... and the, Scamming of Joe Everyman Trial cuts out those that trust him to "do the right thing" crowd.
The difference is up to this point, no media source has focused on anything and none of his rivals have hammered what is out there ... now, the media is focusing, Rubio is hammering it ... plus, the gop establishment is running ads. Trump will only make it to the G/E as a 3rd Party candidate ... and I'm good with that.

(32,047 posts)I have seen friends on Facebook who are diehard republicans (these are educated and relatively well off people) who are very angry at their party right now. They know what this is doing to their party's brand and they are pissed. Of course they did bring it all on themselves ...

(36,827 posts)The central problem the GOP has is their continued survival means getting higher and higher percentages of Republicans to the polls. In order to do this they have no choice but to take more and more extreme positions. Exceptions are no longer allowed for abortions, anti-immigration policy must include deporting all those who are undocumented and building more walls, the military must continue to grow, taxes must continue to be cut, on and on it goes.
Those who take moderate positions will never get nominated, and those who take extreme positions will continue to lose elections. Whichever direction they go will alienate part of their constituency. At some point their entire party will become untenable to anything other than the deep South.

(11,619 posts)What they have is absolute control of all legislation in the United States Congress. A sewage plant does not get named after George W. Bush unless they pass it.
In 24 states, they have a trifecta, which means they control Governor, the state senate, and the state house.
They control 34 governors.
In another 6 states, the control the State House and Senate
55% of all state Senators are Republican and 56% of all state representatives.
I will add, governors manage the state offices that control running elections and counting the vote.
The fact that they don't control the White House is annoying to them and threatens their Control of the Supreme Court.
There have been numerous stories pointing out that Republicans, fearful that Donald Trump will cause big losses in the House, Senate and even the States, are considering running a third party candidate and throwing the election.
They can lose the White House and still control most of the Cards.
The losses must be much deeper than the White House to make that big a dent. Their fear is that Trump will say something so stupid that Americans will flock in the millions to elect a Democrat. A big turn out of Democrats means the US Senate goes goodbye, they will lose seats in the House, a bunch of governors, and a handful of State Houses and Senates.
I don't think the Republican Party will go anywhere for a while.

(36,745 posts)No one candidate will get 270 electoral votes and it will throw it into the gerrymandered House of Representatives where the 3rd candidate will be selected to be President. The Democratic candidate will get screwed like Andrew Jackson was in 1824.

(65,616 posts)I almost agree...not yet, but Trump will be toast. There will be a trifecta of shit that hits him all at once. There is recorded vid/audio of him in the 90s talking all about David Duke when he was relevant. His university is a scam just like these private colleges that put out worthless degrees. I would bet dollars to donuts he has committed some kind of tax fraud or will blame one of his top cronies when it comes out that he did. I can only imagine what kind of shithole, slave labor camps he uses in third world countries.

(31,849 posts)But, I don't believe for one instant he has been under audit for 12 years. And if he has been, he has some real dumb shits for tax lawyers ... or, brilliant, criminal attorneys.
I think trump's biggest fear is that his business model will be exposed. As best I can tell, he hasn't built or purchased control of or done anything business related in more than 20 years. He just sells his name to put on an enterprise or going concern. I think that is what has trump most concerned about his scamming of America university.

(31,232 posts)far he's still there. I think if he loses, or comes close to losing some states he was supposed to win, he'll take his ball and go home. The good news is that he will do his damnedest to damage & even destroy whoever is left standing in his place.
