Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to work with Congress if he is elected president or else.
Asked about comments by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) criticizing the mogul for equivocation when he was asked about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan, the candidate offered a preview of the cooperation to come.
Look, I dont want to waste a lot of time," Trump said. "Im going to get along great with Congress, OK? Paul Ryan, I dont know him well, but Im sure Im going to get along great with him, and if I dont? Hes gonna have to pay a big price, OK?

The Donald seems to be drunk on his own wine.

Any Democrat who sits out this election because our eventual candidate does not pass their own personal purity test, and allows this poseur to occupy the White House will have a lot to answer for.

(1,408 posts)His base goes crazy and applauds him when he says that he will get things done by running roughshod over everyone, and everyone will bend to his will and those that don't will "pay a big price".
Yet, when President Obama tries to work with the reTHUGliCONS, no matter what the goal, he's accused of trying to be a "DICTATOR", "MONARCH" or "KING".
It's just mind boggling that trump supporters can't see the hypocrisy!

Their contradictory nature, their way of being relentless bullies while playing the victim against unimaginably non-existent bullshit has burnt my ass going back to Bill Clinton's days as POTUS.
You can't conversate with them, either, because that mentality has transitioned from just about the their politics to themselves.
It's a pretty good gig being a conservative, you get to say the most awful things while always being outraged and offended over nothing.

Although Rubio tried and ended up just having a Who's got the bigger dick fight.
Trump will say things about Ryan that will strip him of any manliness. It's what he does. All while waving his arms languidly and dismissively in the air saying he heard others saying it.
He'll sit in the Oval Office and re-tweet every insult he finds about his enemies, always claiming he's not the one who said it.

(20,176 posts)I have no great love for either the Turtle or the Bro-Speaker...but Trumpie might want to learn to respect his betters.
Someone might want to point out to the Donald that if he pisses off the Congressional leadership of his own party, the first time he runs any business of the US government as fast-and-loose as he runs his personal business...Democrats are not going to stand in the way of House Republicans issuing articles of impeachment against a President from their own party or Senate Republicans ratifying those articles of impeachment to make him a former President.
Over/Under: 45 days from inauguration.

(82,849 posts)I suppose it's just too much for the millionaire pundits to ask Trump, "So what do you mean when you say that Speaker Ryan will 'have to pay a big price'?"

(10,952 posts)We have already seen what happens when a Republican Congress does not want to work with a President. Trump doesn't get the fact that the President (i.e. Executive Branch) is only 1/3 of the Federal Government. He can spout all he wants but the Presidency does come with certain limitations, most important of which is a President cannot act as a Dictator.

Actually, what he said was:
No one in this world, so far as I know and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.
We were pretty dumb 100 years ago when he said this, but we're a lot dumber now. Believe me Trump will pay no price for this.

(8,964 posts)Does Trump realize that the Speaker of the House can effectively block any and all legislation that might otherwise reach the President's desk? Historically, the lion's share of grovelling between branches of government has originated from the White House and not from the Speaker's office.
