Trump White House may spark recession: Meg Whitman

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) CEO Meg Whitman said Friday Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump 's policies could send the U.S. economy spiraling into recession and would increase the national debt and deficit.

"His ... plan to put on a 35 percent tariff for goods imported into the United States from Mexico and China would sink this country into a recession," she told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street." "It would penalize global companies who are trying to be competitive globally."

Whitman served as national finance co-chair for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie 's failed bid for the Republican nomination. She called Christie's endorsement of Trump "an astonishing display of political opportunism."

"Donald Trump is unfit to be president. He is a dishonest demagogue who plays to our worst fears. Trump would take America on a dangerous journey. Christie knows all that and indicated as much many times publicly," Whitman said in a statement following the endorsement.

Because he'd tank the U.S. economy, financial & real estate markets so badly, it'll make George Bush look like Paul Volcker by comparison.

Especially those at the bottom of the economic ladder. During a recession rich folks may lose a little money, which they usually get back later. Poor people lose their jobs and their ability to keep their families fed and sheltered and they never recover what they have lost.

And of the plutocrats that have profited from wage arbitrage abroad.

If the rentier class lose their asses from curtailment of "trade" with China, It would be absolute poetic justice.

As to the crocodile tears for "poor people" existing from the few crumbs thrown to them from the rentier class: They were gainfully employed before their jobs were exported.

past 8 years how can I disagree. Trump seems ready made for any lobbyist to dump their prewritten fantasy doctrine into law. He doesn't have any policy base of his own. He doesn't care if they might work. He doesn't feel the pain of them. He's W only ten times worse.

While obtaining my MBA at UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) I was selected to join Omicron Delta Epsilon - the economics academic honor society. Is that good enough?

Let's just say that I have enough of a background in economics to know when others are obviously confused about some aspects of the subject.

My (original) comment was about Whitman.
She ran HP into the ground after she was somehow hired as CEO.

Nothing to understand. It was Whitman.

Whitman formally served as president and chief executive officer of eBay from 1998 to 2008 and is credited with building Ebay into the giant it is today. So she had an excellent record when she was hired to be CEO of HP. I would credit Carly Fiorina with true originator of HP's problems.
