Updated in post #32In January I posted details of breaking my hip, being in a Rehab/Physical Therapy Facility, and on the verge of being evicted from my apartment while I was still an inpatient at the rehab facility. DU sure helped me then. This is a continuation or follow up to that post.
Today, the hip is on the mend and the the kitties are great. I've been home from rehab about 4 weeks. I still have to use a walker at all times. In two weeks, I get new X-rays and see the Doctor again. He says the bones should be healed by then, and then the muscle work starts. I don't know exactly what that means but I guess I'll find out. I have more questions for him. The pain is much better, but my leg is a good bit shorter and it's painful to walk unless I put cushions in my shoe to help me stand/walk even.
It was WONDERFUL to get home and see my kitties. I missed them so much (and I think they missed me too). That was the best medicine ever. Seriously.
As I mentioned before, I work at home. I expected to be able to do my work once I came home from rehab. However, I've been limited as to how much I can do and as a result, I've made less money. I've made $704 since I've been home. It helped with some of my past due bills. I paid $347 to keep both electric and phone/internet connected, both of which I consider must haves. I'm in a tight spot and I don't know how I'm going to get through this. I don't have rent for this month and I missed a car payment. I spent the last 7 months of 2015 working to get caught up. Cutting expenses, cancelling subscriptions, Netflix, etc. I picked up a part time job for an extra $300 a month in the fall. I was almost there when this happened. Now, with a considerable loss of income for 2 months, I'm sinking deep in debt.
The one thing I keep telling myself is "this is a temporary situation." It's not going to be like this forever. But until I get through this, it feels pretty bleak and frightening.
I keep checking with community programs and 211. Funds are not available, or I don't qualify in some way. Some people are getting help with utilities.
In January it was suggested that I do a gofundme or kickstarter page. I chose youCaring.com to make a fundraising page. They have no fees on their website. This is the direct link to my page. Unfortunately I'm not on Facebook.
There's pictures of my kitties there also. The big orange guy is Butta Boy, and the brown tabby is Callie Lu. (around the house they're just baby boy and baby girl)
It's so hard for me to ask for help, but this hip fracture has really thrown me for a loop.
If anyone is able and would like to donate, I'll appreciate any help you could offer.
Thank you very much.

(31,384 posts)Butta Boy and Callie Lu remind me of our Simba and Mouse. They were great buddies--adopted as brothers although from two different litters--and together with us for
17 and 14 years.
I feel for you with the broken hip. I had a hip replacement--voluntary--in 2007, but 3 weeks later our house burned down. Hang in there!
Tossing a little in to help, in memory of Simba and Mouse (who both survived the fire, along with our dog, Tanya).

(31,384 posts)The replacement I had was the anterior approach, where they don't cut the muscles. Up walking--with a walker--the next day. Two weeks with a walker, week and a half with
a cane, fine ever since.

18 years! that's a good long life for a cat. Was Lila shy? Callie is very shy - she doesn't let people get to know her. She came with her own 'therapy' cat companion - big orange. When he was returned to the shelter, she immediately bonded with him. The shelter required they be adopted together. He's so laid back and chill - nothing fazes him. My walker is clumsy and noisy... no problem! He doesn't move at all. I have to go around him. But Callie, she runs off and watches from a distance. Still - even after a month!
Thank you so much for contributing and helping me out!

(65,336 posts)came into the apartment, she would get all gooey and aggressively cuddly with him. Once a student of mine named Zak came by the apartment for a conference (because we couldn't fit it into his schedule any other way).
Zak, a member of our college football team, was a huge young man. As we sat at my table going over his paper, Lila leapt onto his lap and start cuddling him as hard as she could, leaning back against his chest and gazing lovingly up into his eyes, rubbing her head back and forth against him, reaching out with her paw to tap his face and then his arms and hands to force him to pet her, and purring so loudly we could barely hear each other speak.
Fortunately Zak liked cats a lot, but it was still almost embarrassing to watch her debase herself to such a degree for a man's attention--especially since it was so obvious that she was responding even more to Zak than to most men because he was such a large specimen of masculinity.
She was fine with girls and women. She liked to be petted and played with, so would encourage anyone to do the job. But any and every man got the worshipful fangirl treatment from her--though no others to quite the extreme level that Zak got.

(9,242 posts)Lila! have some self respect, girl!
I had a tortie who was afraid of men, especially with deep voices.
Cats! such interesting characters and individuals... just like people.

(2 posts)I am an older lady and rarely post here, although I read most posts.
(Some elders do well, but I have had some concussions and do not appear too bright.)
Best wishes to you and it is amazing how people here care about each other.

(198 posts)hey guys please donate to funds like liberalla. Your money goes much much further even though its a lot less then national ones. You hear about tragic viral news stories that have viral accounts and certainly they deserve any help then can get. But im sorry once some of those accounts have 100k 200k 500k an extra 20 dollar donation from you isnt going to do much.
but with people who are really struggling who dont have viral campaigns your 25 goes so much! Please consider donating. iv been on this site only a little while but iv already donated to 3 different people. including just now to liberalla.
