Insurance companies in Massachusetts have petitioned the state for higher rates for small businesses. These rate hikes would apply to companies with fewer than 50 employees. These small companies are struggling to meet current premiums and still offer some form of health insurance coverage. Some, especially the very small businesses cannot afford to offer coverage at all. The self-employed are, as always, stuck with the highest rates possible. It seems the state has given the OK for these rate increases.
If you are from MA or work for a small company, I will bet this is coming your way.

Small business is shafted no matter which way it turns. Huge rents, huge insurance costs, increase in product cost.
For those who won't feel this, I am happy. For the others for whom this will be another huge burden, my sympathy.
Good grief, how can we keep this up. It is far past time to change things.

(1,683 posts)We want to subsidize "small business" with rent control, insurance control, and price controls so that we can use the profits for "living wages" for their employees. Is the math adding up except to create a huge bureaucracy to administer it?
