Flight to get my Service Dog

Just a quick update:

I've paid off the puppy and now I'm working to raise funds for the roundtrip flight to bring her home. I have $42 left in the fundraiser account after paying gofundme fees and for my service dog.

I am hoping to raise an additional $300 to help cover the flight from Cincinnati, OH to Wichita, KS and back. I have already received a letter from my Doctor that will allow me to have the puppy with me in the cabin. This letter will cover her until she finishes training. Thank you all for your continued support! I wouldn't have made it this far without you!

I appreciate all of your support! I'm almost to my halfway point on my fundraiser. Once I buy a ticket and get my service dog, she will begin training classes. I couldn't do this without the support of so many both here, on Facebook, and in person. Thank you all for helping me on my journey!

10. There's a volunteer organization that should be able to help

I volunteer for an organization called Veteran's Airlift Command. We provide transportation for disabled and/or injured veterans in privately owned aircraft completely free to them. I've flown a number of missions for this charity. In January I flew an active service member and amputee from San Antonio to Durant, OK to attend a family funeral and last month I flew a severely disabled veteran and his wife from San Antonio to Tulsa to care for his elderly mother.

I never have personally, by the VAC routinely flies veterans to pick up service dogs.

I tried through another organization called Air Compassion for Veterans, http://www.aircompassionforveterans.org

I completed the application but was never contacted. Do you think I would be eligible for your organization due to the nature of my issues? I am a Veteran with a deployment to Kuwait and Iraq, but most of my issues have to do with my son.

14. I don't really know how they determine eligibility, but I'm pretty sure you would qualify

I do know that the issues do not necessarily have to be service connected. The veteran I transported in January had a leg amputated from injuries received as a result of a motorcycle accident. I suggest you call the phone number listed on the contact page and speak to them about it.

17. The more flexible you are with your travel dates, the easier it is to get a flight

Most of the pilots are guys like me that do this in our spare time, although some are businesses that allow the use of their aircraft for the missions. So you might be riding on a single engine prop aircraft like mine, or a Citation X that belongs to a Fortune 500 company.

13. I just read your story and am heartbroken for you and for your sweet Bradly

You are so brave. That sounds so empty but the words don't exist for me to say how much I admire your selflessness, in taking on that kind of pain in order to spare him any more suffering.

I wonder whether any of your PTSD doctors have mentioned EMDR. I thought of it immediately when I was reading about the way you relive that part of your past so unexpectedly and persistently.

I know advice can be annoying so please forgive me if you've tried it, or had no interest in it, or anything like that, and please know that I will never forget you and Bradly and the sacrifice you made for him.

It took a lot for me to be able to share that with the world. Thank you for always keeping me and Bradly in your thoughts! I am glad that his memory will live on through you and others who have shared in his story.

I never have heard of EMDR before. I had to google it to understand what it was. I will bring it up at my next doctor's appointment.
