Omahas elephants arrived in Omaha earlier this evening and have been taken from Eppley Airfield to their new home at the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium.
A Boeing 747 cargo plane arrived at Eppley at 4:11 p.m. today, delivering six elephants destined for the zoo. The elephants arrived from Wichita after a 36-hour journey that began in Swaziland, and included stops in Senegal and Fort Worth, Texas.
Omahas six elephants are part of a group of 17 elephants that came over from Big Game Parks in Africa. Initially, the zoo and its partners in Dallas and Wichita planned to receive a total of 18 elephants, but one died in December.
