(15,435 posts)for me as a Bernie supporter I'd rather NOT bring Hillary's name into this. I may not like or trust her, but I can not in good conscience even equate Hillary's lack of activism with this or even Kent State.
I support Bernie because I believe he wants to bring this country TOGETHER again. Hillary's associations with TPTB and how I feel she has lied and manipulated the facts and presents herself as something SHE IS NOT is the reason I support Bernie. I don't doubt she wasn't part of this movement, but there are enough reasons for me not to support her, but this isn't one of them.
I'll leave my comments about her it at that. THIS is what 30 years of many very bad decisions being made by our Government has brought us and is getting worse. It was an extremely turbulent time back then and there was a LOT of violence that will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!
If this continues... IMO this time is going to be much worse! Trump has stirred up a hornets nest that I don;t think even HE thought would happen. But there is NO DOUBT, HE must be stopped!
I will vote for Hillary if she's the nominee as much as it disturbs me, AND IT DOES... but I can not let this man step one foot into the WH! This is insane and very, very dangerous AND it's time for OUR leaders to step up and realize that the policies they've voted for and allowed to foment have brought us to this point.
AND TOO MANY PEOPLE in this country have not been paying attention for far too many years.
I support Bernie because I've been an activist and want to stop OUR GOVERNMENT from letting this continue to happen! Our Democrats have FAILED us, but the people of this COUNTRY have not participated in the process and looked away for much too long!
It's much better to have a BLOODLESS Revolution, but maybe we've gone past that point. I want to work toward FIXING our problems and I worry that we've ignored it too long. I'm losing weight and not sleeping well, because I'm so worried. I'm tired of WAR, tired of being manipulated and I'm tired of people following leaders who seem only want to get elected buy any means possible. I include the Democratic Party who has abandoned us and for sure the REPUKES who have completely turned it's back on even fixing ANYTHING that might help!
AND, the fact that they're trying so hard to stop Bernie should WAKE people up. But, with or without Bernie... I feel this is only the beginning!
I REMEMBER NIXON WELL! He lied and lied and lied, and the people DIDN'T listen or didn't care! Today, there are multiple FACTS that show the lies we've been told. Heed them, OR I fear more violence will be coming.
FEEL THE BERN!

(13,798 posts)I remember the folks who stayed away from the rallies and protests-good Democrats who supported Johnson and Humphrey. This is what the poster reminded me of with his comment and how I view Hillary and her supporters today-conservative, status quo Democrats. But then, we've already seen the smears about Bernie's activism by the Clinton camp so this fits right in with their conservative narrative. I'm glad to see so many people standing up to Trump's hate-just like I was happy to see so many people in the streets opposing the Vietnam War when I was young. That's how things change. I don't want to see violence either but that's what people like Trump are pushing.

(15,435 posts)what Trump has lit a fire under. It's been simmering for a long time as most of us know. It's GOOD that this is happening now, BEFORE we actually elect THIS MAN, and IMO BEFORE this country elects Hillary. For those who want to keep searching for snippets here and there about how awful/gob smacking terrible "some" votes Bernie cast in the past, it's the job of us who here and HAVE experienced the past to speak as loudly as we can about our experience.
Bernie and Trump have tapped into the unrest, but there is a very distinct difference about what Trump is doing as opposed to what Bernie is doing.
People here say Bernie is attracting Trump voters, and he may be to some extent, but NOT THESE kind of voters! Bernie's rallies have grown and grown despite what the POWER BROKERS in this country are trying to shut down. They were once called ROBBER BARONS and the people back then paid dearly for what they did. That's why so many of us support Bernie.
Whether anyone here wants to accept it or even see it all, Hillary is very much part of the POWER BROKERS. I wish people were willing to really SEE this. We CAN NOT elect a President and then think OUR job is done because that's where WE have failed. NOW, both Parties are having to face blow back from the people.
IT'S MUCH MORE clear to visually see what Trump has done whereas on the other hand Hillary is presenting herself as someone many of us know she's not. I DON'T buy the argument that because we see her changing her stand on issue after issue that she will really govern that way. To me that's wishful thinking. We can no longer tinker with failed policies and a leopard rarely changes it's spots. SHE IS A HAWK and this country is now seen as War Mongers!
Accept it or not, but because she's been involved with the DLC/Third Way ConservaDems for so very long, THEY want things to stay the same. So of course, there IS so much more information out there about her, but to ignore what she's done that's been detrimental to "we the people" should be a warning of what's to come.
So, in my mind it's no longer if there's going to be a REVOLUTION, it's whether the REVOLUTION needs to be bloody or can this country actually come together for a REVOLUTION that will bring people together.
There can be no doubt that what's on the other side leaves us no choice but to vote for her if she's the nominee. I'm working to make sure she's not. I'm not sure how many people even realize what it's taken for him to stand up to all THIS POWER! It's really quite amazing and it has shaken up the apple cart of those who are really GREEDY BASTARDS! I've never seen a candidate in my lifetime that I really feel will WORK as hard as he can for the people. We ALL know we aren't going to get instant gratification, or at least we should know. Still, this is the time to send the POWER BROKERS their lump of coal!
Hillary will only do small things, and even the fact that I might have to vote for her does disgust me. I can't gloss that over in ANY way. I don't like her, I don't trust her, I don't think she really cares who she has to run rough shod over, and I DON'T think she's what this country needs right now.
WHY would the POWER BROKERS be fighting back so hard against what the people of this country seem to want? WHY do they want Hillary? For me, the answer is that she will "have their back," and many will believe she's doing it for us.
Still, this time around I may be given NO choice but to vote for someone I DO NOT want to be the leader of this country! Should she become the nominee, it will be a hollow victory for her that so many of us feel this way.
We all know they have us backed into a corner, let's just keep trying to STAY out of the corner. It's not hard to see how many people Bernie has excited, and it's not a real stretch to realize that should she become the nominee she will have HAD A LOT of EXTRA, EXTRA help and perhaps a LOT of funny business thrown into the mix. What they're doing behind the scenes may never be known and it's sad that we even think this way. Anyone who's ever watched HOUSE OF CARDS can imagine this reality.
While Trump supporters are vocal in their hate and act like Nazi's, let's not say either one of our candidates want their supporters to act like HIS supporters! At least I haven't seen Democratic rallies like his so far.

As an old white lady who supports Bernie, I am hoping that the attempt to shove old white ladies, en mass, into any politician's pocket, would just stop.

(2,479 posts)They've been here all along, skittering along within the seamy under-belly of society. Trump has just lifted it up, exposed it to the rest of us, and sadly made it OK for them to speak up and shirk their PC. Just remember, they're only 25% of the entire electorate, and have problems within their own party even, and that's only 25% who are voting. Primaries usually bring 33% of the registered.
It's just a highly visible a-hole group. And thank our wonderful right-wing media. Sure makes Hillary look good by comparison--hey, maybe that's what it's all about. Yet Hillary is still having a hard time in the polls against this schmuck.

(1,835 posts)And provides an "answer" to both profound misconceptions and real grievances. And it's an absurd answer.
The void is the atomized individual's powerlessness. The real grievances are wage and wealth theft, conducted by the 1% and their allies, perpetuating an unequal and unfair system. And the profound misconception is that this is all the fault of "minorities."
And of course some people are just nuts.

(6,440 posts)I don't believe in jumping to conclusions. For all I know, she could have been hailing a cab. And even if she was doing a Nazi salute, she could have been protesting Trump's fascist tendencies. I don't discount the possibility that it's exactly what it looks like, I just prefer to know all the facts.

(15,226 posts)In the 1980's I knew some kids who put a burning cross in front of a very old African American church. Some argued they did not know what that meant. That particular salute is well known world wide. Like the kids with the burning cross found out that particular symbol is as unmistakable as flipping your index finger in the air.
