CNNMoney interviewed ethics lawyers who worked for President George W. Bush, presidential candidates Bob Dole, John Kerry, John McCain and Mitt Romney, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. They all said that Trump would have more potential business conflicts than any former president.
Trump has not committed to selling his businesses, and instead he has said many times that his children and executives would manage them.
This is certainly going to present an unprecedented ethical dilemma if Trump wins, said Kenneth Gross, a partner at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, who provided legal assistance to several presidential candidates during their campaigns. He cant just get amnesia. Hes stuck with the knowledge of what he owns.

According to the article, he isn't required to sell off his businesses, but it would be completely unprecedented to take the office with such a conflict of interest. It also sounds like Congress could pass a law to extend the requirement for unelected executive branch to elected. This could be the way the GOP denies Trump the nomination.

(23,272 posts)I hate Trump but to point to his hotels, furniture line, steaks, or wine as being anywhere near on the scale of a conflict of interest as Bush or Cheney is ridiculous.

(5,126 posts)The day after Kasich wins Ohio and the prospect of a brokered convention becomes more likely, this article is showing up in dozens of outlets.
Past conflicts of interest have been put into blind trusts or mitigated (if only superficially) in other ways.
This would be unprecedented and could be used by the GOP as a reason to deny at the convention. I think they're shopping it.

(23,272 posts)Its actually funny to me, "hmmm who has a bigger conflict of interest as POTUS? Being the CEO of Halliburton or the owner of Trump Tower?"
I know I'm simplifying but I just think any POTUS from here on out is now going to be massively connected. It will only be a matter of degrees of conflict of interest only.
