Mormons have some seriously weird ideas about women and sex generally, and about rape in particular. Elizabeth Smart called them out on it, but no long term soul searching seems to have resulted.

Because the police and prosecutors put pressure on women to change their minds and drop rape charges. It's inconvenient for police and the DA, very time consuming, difficult to get a conviction, etc. So they like to get women to admit the sex was consensual. I would guess there are many, many cases where there was a rape, and the victim is talked into telling a different story. Statistically, this supports the sheriff's bogus argument.

Let alone press charges.

Why?
"Because she acted like a typical victim." WTF? WTF?

...by people of this ilk.

And so, bringing their twisted logic to conclusion: if you do get pregnant, then that proves it wasn't rape, doesn't it?

It's no wonder victims give up and drop charges in a jurisdiction like that.
