This Time Next Year Therell Be A New President And Were Going To Miss This One (Author: Bruce Linder)
// Its slowly dawning on me that by this time next year, well have a new president. And Im beginning to realize just how much Ill miss Barack Hussein Obama. Im reasonably confident that neither the Ochre Ogre of Manhattan nor the Booger-Glob-Gobbler of Calgary will become our next president, but even if its Bernie or Hillary; damn, its just gonna be so different, and not in a satisfying way. Putting politics aside for the moment (yes, I can actually do so if I apply myself), part of what Ive appreciated about this president is who he is as a person
His character. His integrity. His intelligence
The Republicans will surely be doing handstands come next January when the Obamas leave Washington, but Im sure theyll soon find someone else to transfer their hatred to. Itll either be piled on the first Jewish president or the first woman president. My hope is that either of them are as capable of withstanding the gauntlet that this president has had to endure. And to do so with such class, competence and humor. Hes been one in a billion. I shall miss him immeasurably, and I suspect you will too. Hes been the best president of my lifetime.

(10,494 posts)Wall Street will still get a pass on criminal behavior;
Trade agreements where our jobs go overseas will still get signed;
Immigrants will still be deported in record numbers;
NSA will still be spying on us;
We will still be embroiled in multiple conflicts around the world, even more so;
The ACA will still be slowly dying due to higher and higher premiums;
We will still look the other way on computerized voting fraud;
Corporations will still have complete access while the people have none;
Climate Change will still have only token lip service;
Fracking and drilling will expand even more;
Still nothing done to bust up monopolies and oligarchies;
We will still get conservative SCOTUS appointments;
And I am sure you can add to this list. It will be like he never left!

(34,845 posts)Not everything you want will be addressed to your satisfaction -nor mine- but a Clinton presidency will be different at its core based on the makeup of Congress, which is where the real power in this country lies.

(34,845 posts)Granted, they have too many tax breaks and conveniences but I'm unaware of their 'rule' over me. It's Congress that confers those perks and advantages so that's who we need to lean on to get things changed.
Some seem to think having a bully pulpit is enough but it isn't. After all, we currently have a Congress that has spent more than $50 million trying to take health insurance away from people. That isn't rational behavior. Bully pulpits don't work with those kind of critters.

(10,494 posts)There is a reason they wanted Citizens United. People just don't realize the power of all of that money, they don't want to believe that our government is controlled by these huge Donors.
They need to look at it from a candidate's perspective. If I take their money I can get elected and become rich and powerful in my own right. I will have to look out for my benefactors though. If I don't take their money, or take it and vote against the Donor's interests, my money will be cut off and in my next election I will have a Primary opponent who gets all of their money and I will be gone from office.
This is one of Hillary's "Hard Choices" where it wasn't all of that hard for her. She and Bill have always taken their money and they have always received more. Hillary can say that even though her benefactors have made her and Bill fabulously wealthy in their own right, and have contributed hundreds of millions of dollars, that it has no effect, the evidence is clear that it does. The Princeton study has proven that the big donors get what they want and that what the majority of Americans want doesn't matter. A case in point, after Sandy Hook, over 90% of Americans wanted some restrictions on guns, but it never happened because the gun Lobby (NRA) didn't want them.
By the way, love the name "Tabasco" and the product itself! Avery Island is a unique and cool place to visit!

Meanwhile, I suspect that Barack will be spending his days on Maryland and Virginias finest golf courses.
