I've reached a mini milestone!

On 2/11/16, I was hospitalized for a case of Cellulites. It was pretty bad and I was in the hospital until 2/27/16. While I wasn't in danger of dying, I think that my actual condition was "ScarethecrapoutofJackites!".

Would we all agree that 17 days in a hospital SUCKS 100% of the time? Although I have nothing but the most positive things to say about all of the doctors, nurses and CNAs that I worked with in that time.

I certainly learned that at just short of 61 years old, I can't screw around with my health anymore. I have a goal for 2016 to lose about 80 pounds...just like I did for 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012... Do we see a pattern here?

However, as of today, I am down 30 pounds since entering the hospital. I've embraced the changes I needed to make and am determined to reach my goal and maybe then some!

I'm going to celebrate by eating a HUGE hot fudge sundae...just kidding!

Thanks for reading!

PEACE!

2. Have you tried juicing instead of a diet?

I bought a Jack Lalane juicer a couple of years ago. I don't need to lose weight but boy do I feel good at 64. I juice every day, twice a day and then eat some things I like on the week ends that way I don't miss chewing and I don't feel like I am depriving myself of the goodies I like. Be happy with you, but be healthy and do occasionally eat that sundie.

6. I know that juicing is a good thing,...

...but I also have to watch my blood sugar, too!

Although the sundae occasionally will happen. I'm targeting it for the 50 pound point!

but the only problem I have with juicing is that it get rid of a source of a lot of the nutrients- the peel.

go for brown sugar. Give up white flour and white rice and exercise - just walk regularly and stretch everywhere.

Good luck

The exercise is a bit minimal due to my back issues and arthritis. I may get a recumbent bike, though.

Total fit about 2 months ago and I love it.
I can't walk but about a block and I am screaming in pain - but this gives me a good workout.

This is what it looks like pretty much:

81. I have arthritis and back issues.

I go on the recumbent bike 3 times a week for at least 20 minutes. I start out on level 1, and then use level 3 most of the time, then back to 1. Walking can bother my back sometimes.

82. When my arthritis in my lower back reached extreme levels, my doc recommended swimming.

and I am an alum of a local college with an Olympic sized pool. Have you tried it?

P.S. As it turned out my extreme pain was as a result of an injury. I was in PT for a long time and as the injury healed the spasm resolved itself and I was miraculously out of pain.

83. I hurt my knee a couple years ago and the recumbent bike at the PT

was the best thing ever. It was like sitting on a padded leather dining room chair.

Afterwards, when I went to buy my own, I couldn't get one quite that comfy (unless I wanted to spend 4 or 5 times as much), but at least I knew what to aim for.

So I'd recommend you do some research, sit on some bikes to see how they feel, and then watch the sales at stores around you. A recumbent bike could be a big help, even with the arthritis.

71. My first bout with this affliction was in '88

When it first showed itself, I refused to go to the hospital as my Doc advised. I said "Just give me some pills and I'll be fine!" The next morning I was in the hospital - where I stayed for 2 weeks while they did their best to save my left lower leg. That I'm still "intact" today is a testament to the health care folks who served me. I would not want to be one of therm as I was a total ass while I was in their care. I was simply pissed at the world because of the pain and inconvenience of my plight. My hat's off to those folks for the work they do and the ill-tempered folks (like me) that they certainly deal with on a daily basis.

...flaw but of course it has a real physiological basis.

If one beats it, it takes tremendous disipline and one can be proud of overcoming it. Congratulations on your success at losing 30 pounds and good luck to you on hitting your goal of 80.

I successfully managed my weight for many years but stresses got to me and I lost control. I am currently experiencing prediabectic syndrome and I've managed to get my weight moving in the right direction. So I very much appreciate what you're going through.

I lost 20 pounds by a small diet of what I like. I knew I would hungry so I put a jar of Peanut butter on my desk but no spoon, only a small plastic knife that might hold a half teaspoon.

At night I would have a large glass of 1% milk, a grilled cheese sandwich and Jalapenos. Thats all but I survived and lost weight. My success was over coming the hunger pains. My youngest sister is trying to lose 80 pounds. She is doing it, a little at a time.

Very Good Luck to you and the best diet plan is the one that works for you!

70. Wow! I am so glad you survived, MarianJack!

What an ordeal!
Have you considered Going vegan?

I am a big believer in the Nutri Bullet- not so much for weight loss, but i find it gives my Multiple Sclerosis Body a little more energy. I know people use it to lose weight. It is a Really puky Color Green, but i LOVE it! Mangos And bananas are my fruits to sweeten it with, but I use as Many greens as i can.
So far as exercise, have you tried water Aerobics? It is such a good Workout and much Easier on your Body than Running or Bilking.
I wish you the best of luck on this Journey.

The downfall is You're Going to have to buy a new wardrobe!.

...if I'd have gotten my Southwest Philly Irishman stubbornness up and refused to go to the hospital. I might have laid down for a nap and never gotten up again. When my wife gets the tone of voice that she used to tell me I was going to the hospital, there is NO debating... Thank God! She is the greatest!

That being said, I was sicker than I thought.

PEACE!

72. You're already well along the road (back) to health with that attitude and

loss of pounds.

I don't know if you like home gym devices, but here are two oldies but goodies that are 1) low or no impact, 2)body weight bearing 3) are silent, allowing TV watching or such, and 4) are dirt cheap and usually available on Craig'slist. And, best of all, they really work!

They are: The 'health rider' type "Weslo Cardio Glide Plus" popularized by Covert Bailey in the 90's
AND the Tony Little "Gazelle-supreme" strider.

Good luck to you MarionJack!

88. That's fine, but I'll tell you that Craigslist had a Cardio glide recently for

$25 bucks and I saw a Gazelle strider for $35 not long ago. They do show up for very little money occasionally.

Main thing is, you are doing the right stuff now.

Cheers

77. You can have that hot fudge sundae if.........

it's one scoop of no sugar added ice cream & no sugar added chocolate sauce. I'm diabetic & I sometimes crave a vanilla milkshake (have my own milkshake mixer) I use the no sugar added vanilla ice cream, a little splenda & a little bit of vanilla flavoring, it's delicious & I didn't kill myself.
