http://us.blastingnews.com/news/2016/03/donald-trump-ted-cruz-show-massive-disrespect-to-obama-as-he-visits-cuba-for-first-time-00844115.htmlFor the first time in 90 years, a United States president has touched down in Cuba. As President Obama set foot in Havana, Republican presidential candidates were quick to give their thoughts on the historic event....
As expected, GOP presidential candidates and other Republicans weren't happy with the news that Obama was heading to Cuba. As the news broke, front runner Donald Trump took to Twitter to slam the story, as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was quick to follow with his negative comments.
Trump accused Castro of not respecting the United States, while Cruz was even harder on the decision to meet in the country. Calling Obama's meeting in Cuba a "gaudy spectacle," he also warned that it could "legitimize" the current regime. While Obama has done his part to bring the two countries together, certain issues require that a Republican controlled Congress act in accordance to his wishes.
Ending the embargo and the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention camp need to get the OK from Congress, which doesn't look to be coming anytime soon. Whether or not the relationship with Cuba progresses will be determined in the upcoming election, as Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have sided with the president, with Republicans openly opposing the current situation.

(42,684 posts)1. Weird headline
Repubs criticized Obama's Cuba trip and did so for reasons I think are bogus. But criticizing a President's decisions isn't "disrespecting" the President. if it is, then a lot of us have spent a lot of time disrespecting repub presidents over the years and are likely to do so in the future if there is another repub in the WH someday.

(3,182 posts)3. It use to be that politics ended "at the water's edge" and no party
would criticize a President while he was on foreign soil.
No so with Obama.
That's where the "disrespect" comes from.
