March 5th marked the second anniversary of Bartcop's passing. With all of the distractions I almost let the month go by without a word of thanks to this man who did so much to kept us sane during the * years. A guy who used the Internet to hit back in a world where voices were silenced. I wonder what his words of wisdom would be today? We'll raise a glass for you tonight friend.....better late than never! Peace and love to all who miss Bart.

(23,867 posts)I am spending time on a youtube channel that reminds me of those days. It's simple, raw, effective. We're a family of friends. Every time I hang out there I think of Bart's "treehouse".
What would he be saying now?

(3,088 posts)from force of habit, I guess. And I still do my Amazon shopping through his portal, hoping to send a few coppers Mrs. Bartcop's way. He was more than a blogger-he was a friend I never met.

(1,428 posts)my feelings about Terry (Bart) Several years ago Terry sent me a lovely turquoise and seed bracelet as thanks for an item I sent to Bartcop. I am holding it now and sending him warmest wishes and deep thanks for all he did.
Thanks for letting me know that the Amazon link is still available.

Besides the politcal musings, I loved his "Today's mystery photo". They were quite a challenge, and kept my brain cells firing.

BFEE ScorecardBartcop coined the term "Bush Family Evil Empire" to denote the 60-year pre-eminence of one family in the formation of the political philosophy in the United States, that of the War Party. The first to do so to my knowledge on the World Wide Web, Bartcop chronicled their ascension to the top of the national security state by hook and by crook. At least three generations have held high national office, while also making big money off war and looting the public Treasury. The last president of the United States, a man who wasn't elected fair and square by any stretch of the imagination, actually said: "Money trumps peace" at a press conference. For some reason, not a single "journalist" had the guts to ask him what he meant by that.
Bartcop did. And We and Democracy are better for it.

(13,869 posts)I always put favorites in order based on type of site, so for years DU and Bartcop were side by side. I disagreed with him about 10% of the time, but hell I don't agree with anybody on everything. His site was a breath of fresh air.

(11,093 posts)It seems much longer than that.
I always tried to contribute some artwork or something to the page. He was very incisive, and wasn't afraid to take on any comers and told it like he saw it. A shot of Chinaco Anejo for him.
p.s.: And I bet he would have loved to have some things to say about the current GOP.

(1,265 posts)Things got even worse in 2001. Bart was a voice in the wilderness saying, "If you think you've lost your mind, there's a bunch of us over here that see the world the same way you do."

(17 posts)Long time lurker first time commenter because Bart was a first read for me daily. I discovered Bartcop during the media bombast in the run up to the Iraq invasion. I remember thinking there must be others like me who see this utter fiasco for what it was, and I found a kindred spirit. Bart had a way of swinging the hammer that left no doubt and took no prisoners, his voice is dearly missed. He was a pioneer in political blogging, it was thru Bartcop that I discovered almost every progressive site that i read daily including this one. I can only imagine the joy he would find in seeing Trump sailing thru the primaries headed for the nomination. He would see Trump as the just desserts for a political party that has gone berserk. I rarely disagreed with him on context, but he could swing that hammer mighty hard sometimes.
A shot to Bartcop! Keep swinging that hammer

(11,256 posts)In 2001. An amazing voice, and incredibly prolific on his website. And those were the days when filling up a website with content every day was a huge amount of work. His anger, his passion, and his zest for life were loved and will be missed and remembered. Thank you for the post.

(3,411 posts)Believe it or not I first heard Bart when he gave a brief telephone interview on C-Span Washington Journal. That had to be just shortly after Bush was put into office. Bart and MWO were my 2 must reads everyday. Like so many others that led me to DU.
