Uh oh, incident with Raul Castro in response to reporter's question about...

...political prisoners.

Touchy stuff there, Raul is asking for names of these political prisoners. Also is not happy that President Obama responded to the question when it was directed at him. He's tapping on his earphones as if he's irritated.

Hmmmm...

Brian Williams and Eugene Robinson immediately jumped right to the context of my OP. It was a very tense and uncomfortable moment that turned into the rest of the presser being a near embarrassment for both Cuba and the United States.

I hardly call my mild interpretation in my OP as "making a mountain out of a molehill".

I just read it differently. I didn't see it as tense or uncomfortable.

15. Okay. What country has more people in prison than any other country? We do.

That's a fact. Is that a moral high ground? What country invaded a country that wasn't a threat and killed tens of thousands of innocent civilians? USA! USA! We have no moral high ground. The government in this country is responsible for poisoning the children of Flint. Moral high ground? I could go on, but you get the point. Americans always put themselves on a pedestal, but the pedestal sits on shaky ground.

But the US is not gunning down black people left and right for no reason.

There are countries were that does happen (and is happening).

There is no doubt that the U.S. Has its own issues, but the suppresion of political dissent in Cuba is on another level altogether, IMO.

Having said that, I support engagement and lifting the embargo.

Many of them get a stipend due to funding of "democracy" organizations in the USA. Kerry tried to stop that but they're still getting millions.

Not all are in that category but many are. So they do detain people but they don't jail them these days.
Thus, he was able to say what he said. Let's see if names appear in the press. Just assume that many of them are seen by the government there as mercenaries paid by the USA (something that needs to stop 0 yesterday!) Obama knows this.
