Professional drivers, stay safe. This is a sad, violent, messed up world, and we have one of the most dangerous jobs in it.

An Uber driver was shot and killed on Detroit's west side after working with the ride-sharing company for three years. Family tell Charlie Langton that the victim, Mo-due Joun, 41, was a father and a loving husband.

Joun was at work early Saturday morning when he crashed his car near Joy and Livernois. Police say after Joun crashed his vehicle, he was shot multiple times and died the next day. Paul Young is a friend of Joun's and said he was a pillar in the community and he had a big family, now left with a gaping hole. Young said that Joun traveled across the seas to come to America for a new opportunity.

Just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, police confirmed that they had a person of interest in custody but stopped short of calling this person a suspect.

Police said the only thing missing from his Joun's car was his cell phone.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation is underway after an Uber driver was fatally shot in Inglewood early Sunday morning, police said.

Authorities responded to the 3700 block of W. 109th Street around 4 a.m. following several reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they found a man who had been struck by gunfire. His vehicle, a black Nissan with dealer plates, was riddled with bullet holes.

An Uber spokesperson confirmed Bayyan was on a trip at the time of his murder, but did not clarify if he was en route to pick a passenger up or if he was dropping someone off when he was fatally shot.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown. A description of the suspect was not immediately released.

That's Lewiston, ME. I read an article about it yesterday. Taxi companies don't like it because they say they have to get some sort of certifications through the state and it seems like Uber is bypassing the certifications somehow. I don't know a how lot about it.

Check out http://uberpeople.net/

...especially if you are thinking of either using or driving for them.

If there is any concern for equality of opportunity and equality of obligation, then either the taxi industry needs to be deregulated, or Uber needs to be regulated.

You just try to use common sense. If something raises your spidey senses about a run, or an area you are in, you get out of there.

You keep your doors locked when not loading and unloading. You never pull into driveways. You always try to keep a way to drive off and escape at red lights.

The reality of robbery and violence is there. Anyone who drives taxi, Lyft, or Uber is seriously underpaid for the danger they are put into.
