I will admit that as unsavory as it is I have been secretly rooting for Donald Trump in Republican primaries to this point. The sole reason is that I felt he was least electable and represented a complete meltdown for the GOP. Not that it really matters who I root for in that race since I already voted in my state's democratic primary, but I was curious if other democrats felt the same way and may be starting to change their minds. I think ideally from our perspective Trump will fall just short of 1237 and they will pick Ted Cruz on the 2nd ballot in Cleveland. I think that would piss off the Trump voters and keep many of them home in November and Cruz would look like a guy who stole the nomination with no mandate.

(15,951 posts)probably the easiest to be defeated. I think Cruz would be worse if he were to be elected.

(24,692 posts)I hate what he is doing to national discourse - the assault on 'political correctness', "he's just saying what we (racists and xenophobes) are thinking".
I suppose there is no way around it but another 8 months of the "us vs them" filth that he spews out to scare and motivate his base will do tremendous long term damage even if he is resoundingly defeated in November.

(60,334 posts)He is doing a fine job of destroying the republican party. About July, when he either gets shut out at the convention or they give him the nomination, then we can throw down on him and who ever else is running out of that cesspool.

(53,997 posts)Cruz does not condone or encourage political violence w/in the democracy of the United States. If he loses the election, he'll give a concession speech instead of encouraging his fans to go into the streets. Cruz has bad governing ideas. Trump is out to destroy the government; he's already gotten people killed with his rhetoric. It is vitally important that Trump be put down. It will be better for America if he's rejected by the Republican Party from which he draws his strength. If they fail, it'll be up to us to beat him, but it's better for democracy if no party ever allows his poison to fester

(43,173 posts)Because neither Trump nor Cruz will win that. It might result in a somewhat more palatable Republican being the nominee who might be more of a challenge to independents, but here's the kicker....Trump and the Trumpkins will throw a fit and either boycott or try to run third party. Advantage: Democrats.

(20,176 posts)If Trump gets shafted out of the nomination and ends up running as a independent, it not only costs the GOP at the top of the ticket and assures a Democratic Presidential win...it has serious negative coattails. Hanging onto the Senate moves out of reach for the GOP and endangers the House for them.
We all should want indie Trump.
