Pat McCrory Says He Signed the Broadest Anti-LGBT Bill in the Nation to Prevent Government Overreach

Not The Onion!

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/pat_mccrory_says_he_signed_the_broadest_anti_lgbt_bill_in_the_country_to_prevent_government_overreach

On Wednesday in a special session North Carolina lawmakers rammed through HB2, a bill that they were granted a mere five minutes to read before beginning debate. A bill that literally made its way through both chambers of the General Assembly, onto the governor's desk, and signed into law in a mere 12 hours.

Even before the City of Charlotte began debate on a bill to extend nondiscrimination protections to LGBT people, North Carolina's Governor Pat McCrory issued a strong threat. He told City Council members, "this action of allowing a person with male anatomy, for example, to use a female restroom or locker room will most likely cause immediate State legislative intervention which I would support as governor."

As soon as the Mayor of Charlotte signed the nondiscrimination ordinance, McCrory and top elected Republican lawmakers sprung into action. They threw the state into chaos, which affected even school aged children. One, a sixth-grader whose best friend is transgender, wrote an op-ed in a local paper urging Gov. McCrory to stop his hypocritical campaign. Wisely, she said, "many people have a similar opinion to McCrory’s, and this opinion is that it puts cisgender people at risk. They say that some people may pretend to be transgender just to 'stalk' people in the bathroom."...

“The basic expectation of privacy in the most personal of settings, a restroom or locker room, for each gender was violated by government overreach and intrusion by the mayor and city council of Charlotte," McCrory trumpeted in a statement after signing the bill Wednesday night.

and claiming that laws to solve the invented problem were actually created to stop the Government from overreaching its authority. Nobody gave a shit about this 2 years ago. TG men and women generally used the bathroom that fit their gender. This whole thing is a false issue invented by bigots, much like how Hitler invented the 'Jewish problem' in Germany.

What's almost comical about this is that the wholr anti-trans lobby we have here basically uses the same arguments that the KKK used to use against black people. Very sad.

It basically wipes out all protections against any form of discrimination including racial and gender. In other words, it's perfectly legal under NC state law now for a business to put a sign on it's door saying " No LGBTQ, Blacks, Muslims, or Women allowed."

This basically removes all local and state discrimination protections placed in the '70's. The only other state with no local/state recourse is Mississippi.

Now the only resort is Federal court, which could be so time-consuming and potentially expensive that many seeking protection would be discouraged to even try.

McCrory and his cronies have put what was becoming a somewhat progressive state, attractive to businesses and citizens alike, further and further back into the "dark ages".

UGH!

First off, those dangerous purposes are already illegal. People who are going to break the law like that...are not going to be deterred. All that is going to happen is that trans people are going to suffer.

Secondly, why would someone who has zero experience trying to pass as the opposite gender, who has had no hormone treatment nor surgery do that?

A person like that would make themselves STAND OUT in public more. They would almost certainly get caught, and they would also be putting themselves at risk from attacks from transphobic bigots? It would be easier for them to sneak into the bathrooms when no one is looking and hide.

Third, how does this law stop these people from going into the opposite sex restroom now? A man could go into the women's restroom and claim to be a cis woman. Or they could simply go in there not even bothering to attempt to dress like a woman and claim to be a FTM now. It stops nothing.

Fourth, how many times has this happened? How about almost never? But Transpeople are frequently the victims of violence!

Of course, transphobes are more concerned about the victims of a crime that almost never happens (because as I mentioned above only a moron of a criminal would make themselves more auspicious instead of less) than they are about protecting transpeople who are facing ACTUAL violence for simply trying to use the restroom constantly.

But that is the real purpose of this, to expose transpeople to more hate and ridicule. To get them arrested for simply trying to use the restroom without getting assaulted. And do you have any idea of what happens to trans people in prison?

It is sick and disgusting that ANYONE would support this bullshit bigoted Piece of shit bill. ESPECIALLY HERE ON DU!!!
