That petition to allow guns into the GOP convention? Turns out it wasn't for real

The Republican Party primary season has been a combative affair.

It's even turned into combat about affairs.

So when it comes to the party's convention in Cleveland, Ohio, in July, emotions will soar and tempers will flare.

Perhaps that's why many have plunged online to support a petition to allow guns in the Quicken Loans Arena, where the convention will be held.

The petition on Change.org has already attracted the signatures of more than 33,000 people who seem to believe that making the arena a gun-free zone violates their Second Amendment rights.

Except that the petition is surely fine satirical commentary. A blog called Hyperationalist has claimed responsibility.

Would be a real ratings bonus for all the networks if there's a shoot-out at the Convention.

Pretty much from the start. Although, I did see one statement that the very highest level of trolling was indistinguishable from what it was trolling about. This would qualify I think.

3. What do you mean by "not for real"?

Was it a petition? Yes

Was it at change.org? Yes

Were people signing it? Yes.

It satisfies every criterion for a real petition.

It has every bit as much reality as every other petition on the Internet.

I'm not at all embarrassed to say I fully support them having guns at their convention.

I said that.

I am torn, part of me wants them to get what they want, which will surely end up with a lot of violence and harm, and part of me wants to prevent them from acting out like the assholes they are to protect them.
