He really doesn't want to President but with all the Trump worshipers out there his ego won't allow him to admit this to himself. Thus he continues along the path to what he regards as his kingship. If he wins the Presidency (and i really believe he won't) he loses. He loses his freedom, his family's freedom, his money, and will not be able to make the deals he is used to making and he fail at a lot of things. If he loses, he will be the thing he dreads the most...being a LOSER!
He has a way out, though, if he chooses it wisely. He needs to be employing the best minds to come up with a way for him to save face and bow out gracefully. yeah, I know...not the Trumpster. But this is the only way he will be able to survive this mess he has gotten himself into with his ego in tact.
I don't know what his camp will come up with, if anything, but it is a possible way out for him and the country. What a joy seeing Trump in a lose-lose situation.

one can only imagine the comedy skits on SNL should those two be running in the GE together. Never mind SNL the world!

(23,931 posts)Republicans need 40% of the Hispanic vote to win the presidency.
how much of the Hispanic vote do you think Trump will carry?
10%? - there are enough Hispanics who are fanatically conservative enough to get him this much
20%? - i think he can get this much with disgruntled Cuban exiles and their allies
30%? - not likely, i think this is about 5 points above his ceiling
iirc W got 45% in 2000, and barely "won" the election. how do you think Trump is going to beat any Democratic candidate?
of course, you could argue that his demographic turnout profile will be much different from W's, and he'll be a Republican candidate unlike any other. okay, it's a super long shot, but maybe so. now how much of the female vote do you think he can pull in?
times have changed; no one, not a Democrat or a Republican, not Trump or anyone else, can win with just the white male vote. not anymore.

(1,569 posts)I see a lot of people on this site that live in a fantasy world where there is no way that Republicans can win any election. The demographics just won't allow it! And they are always suprised when Republicans win.

(24,692 posts)How much damage does such a president do? There is little historical comparison of someone willing to go through the hell of campaigning for 18 months without a real desire to govern.
Compare that potential damage to that which someone like Cruz (who really does want to be president for all the wrong reasons) would intentionally inflict on the US and the world.

(64,877 posts)We had 8 years of that with Silverspoon. He liked the idea of being POTUS. He seemed to like running for POTUS. He never actually wanted to be POTUS. Too much work

(42,770 posts)he could actually come close to winning. Perhaps that is why
he met with Bill Clinton before he announced - to discuss taking a stab at it all. But, the whole thing when wildly awry.

heh
*it could be worse: as the above poster noted, Ted Cruz is even more repulsive and actually wants to Do Stuff

(23,931 posts)see, i think he's a bully who's gotten everything else he wants in life and now just gets off on having people worship him like a pharaoh, he has no overriding ethical interests, but does enjoy destroying things -- big things, like national political parties.
he's clearly getting ego strokes from the rock star candidate treatment. that's a win for him.
his fucking empty podium gets more coverage than other candidates' live speeches. that's a win for him.
the entire GOP establishment is throwing a colossal hissy fit over his delegate count. that's a win for him.
he stands an excellent chance of actually demolishing the Republican party by continuing his candidacy, win or lose. that's a win for him.
if he were someone who cared deeply about preserving a political career, you'd be right, but imho that's not how Trump rolls. he's just in it for fun and cheap thrills. the outrageous shit he says that makes people panic all over the world? that's entertainment to him.
