From the beginning of U.S. awareness about sixty years ago that the dimensions of the illicit business of drugs were becoming a problem, the politics were sorting out along the Right and Left divide Right looking outward for external enemies and throwing cash at problems (war on drugs); the Left looking inward for root causes (social services, education, rehabilitation). Ever literalists, the wingnuts targeted the growing places like Mexico as the source of the problem. And the Mexican response to the stinging demonizing was, If the U.S. didnt *ASK* for drugs, Mexico wouldnt send them, a plain statement of Supply and Demand.
With the rise of the war on drugs the prevailing U.S. opinion was that some comic book super-monster named Drug was looming against the country and that an active duty U.S. military force was in the land, sea, and air for what would surely be a victory. For a few decades the supposed war went on in the background. Every once in a while some drug bust or dead drug boss would bring it to the fore for a few days.
In the past couple of decades when the culture wars took politics over, the wingnuts picked up steam under the Scorched Earth leadership of LIMBAUGH, with one and another wingnut characteristics ever clearer, their HYSTERICAL APPROACH to problems, most of all blaming The Evil Other, and also, irrationally (since claiming to cut spending), throwing money at problems, think of the image of U.S. soldiers in Iraq playing football with bundles of cash.
Only in very recent years have some leading Democrats started voicing the demand for drugs in the U.S. as the definition of the problem.
So in Donald DRUMPFs latest unhinged press conference today, he disposed of his most recent mounting problems by shifting the topic to the solution of stopping the drugs from Mexico via his wall. Thats what he said. That his wall will stop all drugs in the U.S.
*Except for those coming in by tunnel, air or sea.
