Republican convention gun petition author is from Spokane, has legal history with online postings

The man who petitioned unsuccessfully to allow guns at the Republican National Convention is indeed from Spokane.

And that author, Jim Ryan, is currently involved in a defamation lawsuit with the former executive artistic director of the Spokane Civic Theatre.

Ryan called The Spokesman-Review on Wednesday, after his full name was published by national news outlets, to apologize for lying about where he lived. On Tuesday, Ryan – who identified himself only by his first name out of stated fear of retaliation for the petition – said he lived “well south” of Spokane.

On Wednesday, Ryan said he was still concerned about the safety of his family but had no remorse for posting the petition online, which as of Wednesday afternoon had more than 52,000 signees. Ryan said he was trying to make a point that Republicans were being hypocritical by supporting laws allowing gun carrying in some places, but are uneasy about having guns at their convention.

1. What does his other lawsuit or where he lives have to do with anything?

He had a brilliant idea, we all should be so smart.

2. Fixed title to emphasize how ironic it is for him to advocate carrying guns at the convention

and yet be so cowardly and afraid for his safety (someone coming after him with a gun) that he lied about his name and place of residence. It just fits so perfectly into the whole 'gun owners are really cowards' meme.

3. You have it backwards...he did the petition to expose the hypocrisy of right wingers wanting

guns

He is a liberal and fears right wingers who hate him now for exposing them

4. I'm not so sure 'smart' would be the word to describe him...

He's has a notorious history here. He was the former music director for the Spokane Civic Theatre. He was fired after his nude photos and sexual swinger's ad on Craigslist--in which he mentioned where he was employed--was brought to the attention of the theatre.

He then created a blog in which he relentlessly derided his former boss who finally ended up suing him for defamation:
