At least 22 killed in Kandahar suicide attack

The blasts struck a crowded roadside market where lorry drivers and workers often wait to get into Kandahar Air Field.

A motorcyclist detonated first and as a crowd gathered near the carnage, at least one other suicide bomber on foot exploded in their midst and added to the death toll.

Around 50 were wounded in the attack, which Hamid Karzai said he condemned in the severest terms. Police said all the victims were civilians and local security guards.

A statement from the Nato-led coalition said the explosion had occurred “several kilometres” from where its troops were stationed and the bomb could never have injured any of them.
