Teachers should setup a storefront, give it a fancy name and file for charter grants.

File for both fed and state grants. Have old world plaid uniforms and claim to be an academy. Charge state minimum per pupil + 100%.

Get in early or get left behind.

I don't think you understand why they became teachers in the first place.

Yes, it's absurd, but teacher do deserve better than they're getting now.

what good teachers are really worth we would attract better people into the profession. As it is, the bottom third of college grads go into teaching. We also need to get rid of some really stupid ideas...like kids learn to spell from circling words on a workbook page, and learn to write when they can barely read. Or that they can be taught to read using perfectly ridiculous "readers" with absurd stories that do not interest the children at all.

We need to put educators in charge of education. That goes for both state houses and school boards. Laypeople have no idea what they're talking about with regard to educating children.

Because we don't give any incentive for the top third to go into teaching. And if they don't go into teaching, who will? It is indeed a race to the bottom.

It is so frustrating that we spend so much money on education...for stupid things like spelling workbooks (you'd would choke if you knew what school districts spend on disposables) and pay our teachers so little.

for the entire country. Then when all those "for profit" charter schools are in place and there are no public schools available the cost to the states will skyrocket. Just wait until you see what your property taxes will become.
