General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAt NO POINT in the foreseeable future will I be clearing out my DU "Ignore List".
Because I have nobody on ignore and haven't in a very long time.
I will discuss anything with anyone, at any time and refuse to shut anyone out, even if I'm certain they completely wrong (IMHO) on all of the issues.
Which leads me to ask-
How many people do you have on ignore?
and
Do you plan on clearing out your Ignore List after the primary?
Else You Are Mad

(149,516 posts)Two are trolls who said ugly things to me before they got the boot. I put them on the list so that if I ever read my threads again, I will not see the ugly things they said.
The third person is a member in good standing who also said some ugly things to me. I don't ever want to read what was written again and the ignore list makes that possible.
So there's that.

(10,493 posts)And No. The select individuals I have on there don't have conversations. I'm pretty sure they are trolls. It took some pretty questionable behaviors to get them there. Most had even been on long term vacation when Skinner released them with the Kraken, and I swiftly had to re-add them to ignore. I won't even participate in their juries when they come up. I wish when you had someone on full ignore you wouldn't get those. Strange.
Anyway, it's much healthier this way.

Also on ignore are one person who personally insulted me, one person who habitually posts the first sentence from the post as also the post title (inconsiderate habit), a right-wing troll with a high post count, and several authoritarians that constantly post dishonest opinions. (15,023 posts)Mostly its simple stupidity I wish to avoid -- drunken fools, whacked-out conspiracy nuts ("BushCo caused the tsunami"), one-note wonders who post the same drivel over and over. . . Others may choose what they perceive as the "high road" of tolerance and community, but I've no time for blithering foolishness and no interest in useless poppycock. Some will disagree but I figure they must have a surplus of life.
There are some posters whose every other utterance is imbecilic, and those who delight in being boorish with no regard for raising the level of conversation or thought. These too I choose to ignore. And it's not something I do lightly: before I click, I'm convinced these people have nothing to offer -- no insight, no new perspective, nothing to change either my attitude or thought. And though I perceive I have an open mind, that's no reason to let others use it as a sewer.
I also utilize ignore to remove trolls and other unsavory folk from my experience. Oh, I recognize they may be gone by morning, but how much more pleasant the evening is without them. I've never blocked anyone who intelligently debated me, but I'll not suffer fools gladly or madly.
If it makes people feel better about the DU "family" or some other such fantasy, you can occasionally clear your entire Ignore list. I do. Often, I find many of those I've shut off were soon after tombstoned, so I don't feel I missed anything.

(11,949 posts)I really cannot see the purpose of participating in a political site and not wanting opposing views, even expressed in a rude manner. And being raised to believe the words,at the end of the day can't hurt me, I actually enjoy hearing opinions I think are bullshit. Even if they are personally disparaging.
There is at least one person responding on this thread that disagrees with me and feels that hearing opposing opinions is more than he or she wants to or can deal with. I am sorely tempted to make disparaging comments about his or her favorite candidate just to get myself on an ignore list. But since I like both of our candidates I will refrain. Plus, being new here I don't know the ramifications of being ignored. And with only 13 post I really should not be a dick yet.
Plus, in my over half-century of life I have learned that listening to people I totally disagree with often teaches me more than listening to an echo chamber. Not saying that I will agree with them, but helping me strength and my own views.

(13,297 posts)... from 2008 until this weekend of Pope-visit bashing. Having to read a bunch of comments who's sole purpose is to try and bully fellow Democrats instead of making a genuine argument gives one the sense this should be called Democratic-Playground.
Most people here are already decided anyway, there is no reason to even engage any longer. Just wasting both people's time.
Was easy to create a blocking list as someone had posted a simple question-poll asking for one word to describe their candidate, and all the bitter/angry replies were the same source of the most ignorance exhibited around the site. It's a rabid group, but they are easily trapped in one place by the right cheese.

(14,912 posts)cite... I will engage in a polite, CIVIL, debate with anyone, even if I KNOW neither of us are going to change each other's minds. You can learn a LOT about someone, and their character, by the way they choose to debate.
I know that I am on a few ignore lists, but I don't lose any sleep over it. This place is filled with enough wonderful, educated, compassionate and thoughtful people that the few who choose to ignore me, because they can't handle anything but an echo chamber, don't even register with me.
I also thank you for posting this because, as you can see by the replies bragging about their ignore lists, I tell everyone who posts "DUPE!!" to someone else's post about how many people may not have seen the "first" post, but might see the so-called "DUPE!!", therefore it is NOT a "DUPE!!" to them! I, personally, don't believe there are "DUPE!!"s, for this very reason... and *some* things NEED to be posted more than once, just for the exposure!
Peace to you and yours,

(14,255 posts)I don't ignore on the basis of "they don't agree with me" at all - I ignore because of nastiness, repeated lies, and mind-numbingly authoritarian condescending twaddle. Why keep reading stupid stuff like that?
