maybe we could have an impact on the money game that is now reality.
We have 150,000 + members.
If everyone gave $5 (averaging it out between those that could give $1 and those that could give more) that would be approx
$750,000 just from DUers once ever 3 months.
No - it's not the millions, or cough - the billions - of what the Koch Bros, KKKarl, Adelson, etc will donate - but it's nothing to sneeze at either.
Thoughts???? Is this something my fellow DUers would be willing to do?

(130,865 posts)assuming you're talking about DUers donating to Obama campaign? Would have to be more than once a quarter, more like once a month until November.
If you're thinking more generally, to whichever candidates we 'like' or are particularly interested in, that's another thing, but I still agree.

(1,688 posts)by the time to get rid of the double accounts, the no longer politically interested, the trolls, the dead and the banned on the membership list, that number will start to look very different. Still not a bad idea, we can concentrate on 1 small state and make it a success with true blue progressive policies and if successful can be used to show that liberal policies work in the US

(39,215 posts)that I should find a way to donate if I do not want this to happen in November. Wisconsin is a state that has a good education system and they are reasonably intelligent people but they did not know when they were being munipulated by big money. What happened there yesterday scares my. Our nation is blinder than we thought.

Having said that, I plan to make a one time $100 donation from next month's pension check to both Obama and Sherrod Brown's campaign coffers. I'll augment that by buying my usual bumper stickers and t-shirts. That's something corporations can't do, and pride is a human-only emotion.

(11,911 posts)Just donated 2 wks ago to Obama. Not a lot, it was $25. I thought it was low enough that hubby wouldn't say much, then I could do it again in a couple of months. Hubby wasn't thrilled, but ttthhhhhppppppp!!! You gotta put your money where your mouth is.

(20,776 posts)I think it would be great if the staff of DU set up a donation fund for President Obama, and it could be donated all at once. I could kicked in 5 dollars each month.. I would do it, knowing that we could end up losing our hope for a decent future.
