The best thing that one can do to protect the vote is to be an election workers. Poll watchers are limited in what they can do but an election worker can do a great deal to protect the vote

They only produce a preliminary count. (And, from having watched this as a poll worker, they sometimes get it wrong. And they sometimes accidentally disenfranchise voters by having them not follow the right procedure.)
