The White House correspondents dinner

I saw something on TV today that gave me pause and made me think about how our country has "evolved"over the years. It seems the dinner is such a hot event that wealthy people and celebrities gobble up all the tickets, so actual journalists who cover the administration cannot get in. So it's mostly bullshit, lots of rubbing elbows among the rich and famous, photo ops with celebs, etc.

He has a great sense of humor and perfect timing! He sure got Donald Trump and I have a feeling Trump will be on tonight's agenda...

That seems to happen with lots of well-intentioned events. There's probably an equation out there that identifies the point in time at which the original mission of an event becomes perverted into something that barely resembles it's mission.
